Yep. I bet the 4 volt wheat light has been the death of more coon than any other.

It's what I've used for many years. Works for me. I'd like to have a little more power at times. But not a bad light

im just getting into coon hunting and having to buy everything. i made me a nice dog box(florida style), bought me a nice used tracking system, heading up north this weekend to pick up a dog, now i just needed the light, an affordable one at that

A good guy from my club gave me his switch and wheat light with a dead battery when I was just starting out. I bought a new 6v nite lite gell battery, a belt, and a hat, and have been super happy with it. I can hunt 3-4 hours every night for a week without worrying about it going dead.

I've used many different lights, from a motorcycle battery back when I was a young kid (early 70's) to some high voltage lites of today.
Take a look around, 28 volts of tree melting power!! How much do you need? These high power (and dollar) lights always have things going wrong with them, and are in the shop for repair. Ask someone who has a high powered light what he has for backup when its in the shop.
My bet is that it is one of two things- a 4 volt wheat lite or a 6 volt nite lite.
My preference is my nite lite. I like nite lites head better than a wheat head, but that is something you can look at and make a choice. I do have a spotlight for the night lite, if the head is not as bright as I want. I don't have problems finding coon, in fact, in the summer I like the fact that I can turn down my light so low. With that ability, I don't need a amber cover.

Hunted with the six volt nite lite for several years. Good lites for the money, but I think I would look around. Never had the success with the batteries that Hump had, but I am not sayin' that it couldn't happen. I seemed to get 3-4 hours for say two days then it was dead.

6 volt lights are just fine. You'll make out fine with one. I have for many years. 4 months ago I bought a big (28V) light. It is nice but for the money 6volts are fine.

I still use one quite a bit, got a Raw Dawg also that is a good light but it doesn't hold near the charge my ole 6v nite lite does.
