What To Treat A Dog With Giardia??
WHAT DO YOU TREAT A DOG WITH GIARDIA WITH??? NEED SOME FEEDBACK...THANKSS
how do you know the dog has giardia? a veternarian has to do testing and they should recomend the right antibiotic..i had a pup die from this because the first vet i went to misdiagnosed it..by the time the results came back the pup had died..the vet said it takes a certain antibiotic to cure it, but i can't recall what it was..but if you let it go to long there intestinal walls will get so raw that they will granulate together and close off their intestines..good luck

in pups they use diocyclene or however it is spelled. Once it is under control panacur will minimize future relapses. note all dogs have a certain level of the giardia bacteria some get outbreaks due to various factors.
Liquid Neomycin from Tractor Supply .. Its a large brown Bottle from in the Cattle Meds.
Give 5cc stright down twice a day for 3 days ..

It is endemic to the water supply in the woods. Flagyl is the antibiotic.
Most dogs are exposed, most don't have a problem. If it is a problem it needs to be treated.
Otherwise it doesn't. Depends on the dog.
I wouldn't treat the dog based on a stool sample or some other lab test.
I would treat the dog if it has symptoms (severe diarrhea, lethergy, weight loss etc).
Labs are just labs, it's the whole picture. If the dog doesn't have a physical problem it doesn't have a problem. If it does it needs to be treated.
And yes, it can be transmitted to humans, and it is pretty easy to catch. If you get it the human docs will give you Flagyl too LOL.

Yep, my Jeff dog had it back in 2004. Flagyl is what my vet prescribed also and it worked but it is a tough one to beat. Also very hard to detect, atleast it was back then. They get it from drinking water where you have beavers or muskrats. Beaver fever. It is also why they tell you never to drink the water in Mexico. My sister didn't listen and spent a month getting over it. They prescribe the same thing for people that they do for dogs, flagyl
