opinons on situation

3 dogs treeing and 1 dog still running different track in opposite direction, Its tuff to have to leave a dog out of hearing to go to others. If the dog running track goes to treeing you can't even call the dog treed. This is a tough situation for dogs that like to get by themselves, as long as they are good stay put tree dogs I guess the only problem is wearing themsleves out on a tree that won't get scored for a while. I just feel better about being able to hear my hound.

I guess I feel if your comfortable with allowing 3 others to score a tree, you should be afforded the oppertunity to atleast stay within hearing range of your hound until rest of cast scores tree and turns loose on the track the other dogs working.

Robert, youre situation is probably one of the most occurring situations that come up in a nite hunt.

Really though there is nothing that can be done about it.

"Technically" when dog are trailing in different directions out of hearing then time out is suppost to be called however I have never seen it done.

There are two rules that control this situation. One is the rule that requires every member of the cast to score the tree and the other requires the cast to stay together unless given permission to handle at a split tree.
One thing different about comp hunting from pleasure hunting is that you cannot follow your hound as you choose.

The way it should be done is this.

You stay with the cast and go score the other 3 guys tree. After that the guide has to take you back to where you last heard youre dog and apply the 8.

Hopefully youre dog would be treed by the time all this takes place and you would tree youre dog and go straight to the tree.

Yes, I agree but hope they don't put the time back on a dog that was probably treeing for a 1/2 hour or so, thats what I really don't care for.

Zone 2 this past year. 2nd drop my dog went opposite direction on 2nd strike across the road. other 3 dogs went on and split. we even cut a time or 2 back into my dog bc she was so far off i wasnt sure she was treed. 60 minutes later, i treed her 4 sections away (close to a mile). we all walked to her. she was 200 yards across the road from the trucks treed. she was there well over an hour with a coon. i won the cast that night, but i believe that was the big reason she didn't hold up well on nite #2.

I believe that if you are cutting back to a dog out trailing, you should atleast have to split the difference between where the cast presently is and where the dog was last heard.

For example, you shouldn't be able to recast to a dog that is heard trailing after you just walked a mile to score the idiot dog that blew through the country by himself to get treed.

I agree 100%.. It takes alot out of a dog that has to tree, tree and tree for a long period of time. I understand the rule, what I'm saying is I just like to know where my dog is around roads etc,etc especially when I don't know where I am or whats over the next hill. If I know this I have no problem letting the dog tree until the cast gets there thats just hunting in the hunts. Dog safety is my main concern.
