-- 12 year old female (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=266301)
12 year old female
A friend of mine has a 12 year old female. My question is do ya'll think she would still be breedable? She dont act like a 12 year old but I dont know if being active has got anything to do with it. Thanks for your help.
my vet didn't recomend it after the age of 10 , he told me it could lead to alot of problems. Ultimately it boils down to you but I wouldn't do it.

There are some obvious medical/physical issues to be concerned with. Only your buddy can decide what is best for his dog. In my opinion from a moral perspective, breeding an older dog is the highest honor that they can be rewarded with at that stage. It says that their genetics have demonstrated through lifes trials and tribulations that them, and their offspring, are worthy of passing their genetics on to yet another generation. All these tree huggers will have you believe that there is harm in breeding older animals. Don't buy it. But don't be dumb and overlook the risks either.
The dog is too old to breed!

Know of several men that have raised pups from 10-11-12-and 13 year old females. Yes I said Thirteen!! Most of the older females did loose a few pups. If you keep an eye on her and help her along with the babys{ if she needs help} you'll prolly preserve some nice older blood to carry on with.

Thanks guys I really want to breed her. But I'd hate to loose his gyp. I may try it if she comes back in.
I bred my old Daisymae female at 11 years old, had 7 pups raised them all.She was from some old blood.one of her pups is posted on the Jet X Smokey River thread on the Bluetick site.If she is healthy breed her, make sure she gets plenty of exercise and a well balanced diet so she doesn't get fat
just my opinion
My pups dam is 10. Was her last litter. If the female gets a clean bill of health from the vet go ahead.
