Are there any breeds that can't be single registered?

say for example if i got a coldblood grey from out west, could i single register it even though there are known shags in the background?

What is the specific breed of dog you are asking about?

Posted by Laurie Soutar on 09-29-2008 08:04 PM:

For Russell:
A 'coldblood' is a mostly purebred, but not registered Greyhound, generally bred for coyote hunting. A 'shag' is a wire coated longdog or lurcher (sighthound cross).

For Pops
To single register means to transfer the registration from another registry (like the AKC or NGA) to the UKC. What I think you are asking for is an open registry - meaning to register dogs without any other papers, and UKC does not have an open registry for Greyhounds. Since your dog is not registered (or purebred) it would not be eligible for full UKC registration, but if you wanted to compete in performance events you could get a Limited Priviledge number on it once it is spayed or neutered.

For Laurie: Thank you. Those are terms I had not heard before.

For Pops: Laurie is correct on the registration information in her post.

All dogs accepted for Limited Privilege may enter all performance events for which the breed is eligible.

Steve, eligibility requirements for UKC coonhound events require that the dog be UKC registered -- a dog registered in the Limited Priviledge Program would not meet that eligibility.

Let me check on this to get a definite answer. I'll let you know as soon as I find something out.

OK, I have checked into this, and ONLY Coonhounds that are permanently registered with UKC can compete in the hunts. Coonhounds that are registered under the Limited Privledge Program are not eligible to participate in hunts.
