are not the only grade dogs out there!!! ARGGGG! Guess the clubs that sniff their noses at grade casts are lucky to be able to be so elitist. LOL

libby about twenty years ago i had a good black and tan took me a year or more to track down her papers.. mean time i hunted in grade. id say that ive seen as many good dogs then in grade cast as i saw the next year in nt ch casts. i can remember people saying hay what you huntin tonite.. when i said grade they werent real impressed.. the next year i had papers in order and made nt ch in no time . won more than my share of n ch casts.. anyways guys that hunted in hunts 30 years ago will tell you that there were some super grade dogs around.. it really is too bad that some will knock a grade dog they havent hunted with.. i think they should all be run together.. grade reg nite ch.. and gr nite ch.. this possibly would make it a little harder to make a nt ch. so what if it does,, anyways ill never knock a grade dog . i think if somebodies willing to pay their entree fee thay should be allowed to compete.. i personally would get a kick out of seeing some of these real high powered big time hounds i hear about get whooped by a grade dog.. it might not happen all the time but it would happen... a littl humility is a good thing . pete

it's like the year I took my stock 340 and ran in the open class, and turned the over all fastest time of the whole race. The bad part was if I would have stayed in the Pro Class, I could have won another $300.00.

It's funny that a Gr. Nite could hunt the grade class but a grade can't hunt a Gr. Class?

Yup! Grade dogs are used for a different purpose. To coon hunt with. I haven't owned a grade dog in 40 years and probably will not again,simply because I have had and plan to stay with the same family of dogs for so long, BUT as a whole, the grade dogs that I had experience with were better than what I now see in the reg. Consider this, they were NATURALLY culled. No reason to keep a sorry grade dog. No papers to keep it afloat.

A business is a business

and most business's are in business to make money or they wouldn't be in business.UKC is a business just like your local Chevrolet dealer is a business.
All hounds at one time were "grade" hounds,then along came the different registeries and put papers on those "grade" hounds to make them registered.Then they provided a competition event for the hounds with papers but didn't exclude the "grade" hounds to start with.When folks finally quit trying to register their hounds then eventually the "grade" hounds were eliminated from the hunts and from a business stand point I don't blame them at all.If the grade hounds kept winning the hunts,which they were capable of doing,they were eleminating a registered hound from gaining a title,you wouldn't have the papers to prove your "grade" hound won a hunt.Any business owes it to their customers to provide the best service available in their power.A "grade" hound is not one of their customers.I bet most of the Chevyrolet dealers in your area will not provide a new Ford for you to choose from so why should UKC provide a "grade" hound the oportunity to compete with their customers.
They do provide a service for Curs.Should we mix Curs and Hounds??? Not in my opinion.Some say a Cur is a hound,well if they are hounds why are they called Curs???? I am not afraid of their competition at all,I just don't believe the two different breeds should be mixed.A competition coonhunt just for Curs would be great and would probably draw lots of interest but for my two cents they should be hunted in competition with their own breed.These are just my thoughts of which I am entitled to just as you are yours and mine are not debateable because they are mine,nor are they sueable for slanderous because I am writing to myself.If you are reading this it is at your own risk as the writer is not responsible for theft or accidents.

If you take 1 paper breed and bred it to another paper breed, you have a 1/2 breed, or back in the "old'n" days a grade hound. An you can paper that hound into any breed that it's "color" lets you, if it can tree a coon, correct? Why not just give all half breeds a number (GB0001 -grade bred) with what ever group and let them hunt? Doesn't seem to many are breeding but for the score card any way-I mean, I heard one guy say at National Day's, he wanted his Redbone to "Hunt like a Walker and tree like a Cur".
I bet there was a few old Breeders who are in a better place shake their head at that statement.

I am glad that GrNt can hunt grade class...they don't have to worry so much about winning points. The grade cast I went out on was way more fun than any reg or ntch or grntch cast i have been on...maybe because I got to hunt my grade dog and support my club and nobody was whining and bickering

If you want to encourage new hunters, i would suggest grade cast for those who are stumbling into coonhunting like me and others. I have gotten a registered dog to competitive hunt with this year..,but I still love my grade dog.

I feel that most grade dogs are better than most people give them credit to be.I have nothing against grade dogs being in comptition hunts.My question is when you have a grade dog that is winning how long will it stay grade.I feel you would have more single reg dogs than you could shake a stick at.And that may have a negative effect on the breed.

The six main breeds of Coonhounds are getting like the race cars in Nascar, they're all a like but for the name on the grill. Most are breeding out the traits that each breed was known for just to get to the finish line first.
