Questions on New Breed Standards
I received my CB issue today. As always I quickly run through and check out the Event winners and Stud Ads. Then I go back and carefully read it page for page. Thank goodness I did. I may have missed the topic that I'm about to question. Before I go on, let me please make it clear in no way shape or form am I ridiculing, talking ill off or bad mouthing any hound or it's owner. I simply don't know anything about this breed other than what I have just read and being a Bench Show Judge for UKC I must investigate to further my own personal knowledge.
Head:
(A) The plane of the skull and muzzle are 'parallel'. Does this mean as if you look at a pick up truck roof and bed rail?
(B) First it says the muzzle is joined to the skull by a definate stop. But then in the next paragraph it says the skull tapers slightly to the muzzle. Am I missing something?
EYES: Leopard spotted dogs may have one or both wall eyes or blue eyes. What is a wall eye? I know what a walleye is and it goes good with cole slaw. I have no idea what wall eye is.
TAIL: The tail is set low, and may be any length. Does that mean cropped also?
COAT: There are two layers to the coat. A rough outer coat and a fine wooly under coat. As Judges are we to check to make sure the dog has an under coat?
HEIGHT AND WEIGHT: The standards gives the WEIGHT standard. 50-70 for males and 45-65 females. I haven't found where it says what the HEIGHT is...?
DISQUALIFYING FAULTS" Uni or bilateral crypt. Viciousness or extreme shyness. Albinism. Excessive long hair, silky or wavy.
TEETH/BAD BITE NOT LISTED AS A DQF. ETC.
ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ON WHAT I AM HOPELESSY CONFUSED ON?

About the tail thing...
A long time friend of mine has raised cur's since he was a boy and his daddy hunted. All of their dogs have ALWAYS had a cropped/bobbed tail. I've never seen them own one that had one, and when I was younger I just assumed they were born that way. It wasn't until I was working for a vet that I actually saw some with their tails... wondering if this is just owner preference, breed standard for another breed, or what?

under coat will be there year around. I have no idea where these standards came from. They are different from what our association has. Probably much more detail than the association has. We are working on these. Tail, they come full tail and bob tailed naturally. Please remember these dogs have spent very little time on the bench. Emphasis has been put on performance in the woods, hence the lack of details called out in in the standards. I am not saying attention to confirmation etc was neglected. It was just not addressed in the written standards. We hope to get this updated. Thanks Perry
