Question For Club Members

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF YOUR CLUB HAS AN OPEN MEMBERSHIP POLICY ( ACCEPTS EVERYONE THAT CAN GET A SPONSOR ) , A CLUB WITH A LIMIT ON THE NUMBERS OF MEMBERS , AND IF ALL ISSUES ARE VOTED ON THE MEMBERS OR IS YOUR CLUB RUN BY A BOARD OF DIRECTORS ?

DO CLUBS REQUIRE MEMBERS TO BE PARTICIPATING IF PHYSICALLY ABLE OR CAN ANYONE JOIN AND NOT HELP OR PARTICIPATE IN RUNNING THE EVENTS ?

BIG ISSUE FACING OUR CLUB : KEEP IT SMALL WITH ALL HELPFUL MEMBERS OR ACCEPT ANYONE THAT COME UP WITH THE MEMBERSHIP DUES ?

every club I know of has an open membership. you pay the membership dues and you're in.

our club membership is as follows, a member has to bring your name up at the meeting for nomination to join, at that time he is asked if the person is reputable, then it goes up for vote if you dont get a majority, then the person is not a member.

Never heard of a club who didn't take anyone with the money for dues.

I like the idea though.

We are in the process of reorganizing a club that has been around for a long time but hasn't held an event in 3 yrs. We've been officers and/or members of several dog clubs for many years and we got sick and tired of members coming to the meetings to vote-in and argue about things they never help with or participate in. Because of that, we decided to run our club with an executive committee consisting of people who are willing to help out whenever and wherever possible, and who are interested in the longevity and success of the club and its events.
We haven't completed our new by-laws yet, but I think we'll have a non-voting (or supporting) membership open to anyone, and then a voting membership open only to people who are willing to help.
I belonged to one dog club where you had to have 2 members in good standing nominate you for membership, plus attend 3 meetings to become a member. Then you had to participate on a committe or help at a certain number of events during the year to remain a voting member.
I think something like this is the way to go to insure a successful club and events, especially when you have a relatively small membership anyhow and the same handful of people who always run everything.

Good Luck, CalBlu!! Hope ya'll get something, we'd drive 10 hours for another stroll by the rice paddies Make one night a grade hunt!

Looks like we are thinking of some re-organization with the stronger club and have four members with the further north one. Had one cast with two dogs last weekend. Hope it is just a cycle.

Wish we had the luxury of picking and choosing instead of praying and looking for members. I have even posted on stinking Craigslist...got flagged and bumped twice, no real interested replies.

Ya'll coming up for the RQE?

Our club has an open membership policy.
Our membership dues are only 3 dollars a year.
Most all of our mrmbers are active in one way or another.
There are a few that b!tch and moan and do nothing, but for the most part we have a pretty good bunch of people.

Hi Libby!
We've got events on the books already!! Got a great new spot where we can do it all -- NH, BS, WR and FT. And it's only about 5 miles away from our house! Also have a really dedicated group of people running things so I have high expectations this year.
Bad news is that no grade hunts are being considered at this time. We need to get people willing to guide grade casts for that to happen. It's hard enough to get guides for the UKC hunts. Tiny and I can only realistically each guide 2 casts a night. LOL
We'll be doing the UKC stuff at first. Then as the year goes on there will hopefully be some grade (non auction) WRs and FTs as well. Hope you can make it down for at least one! All the info is on our website. That reminds me -- I need to send a post to the WA list about our events.
I was hoping Tiny would go up to the RQE, but weird stuff is happening at his work right now. I've got a cavy show Sat and am pursuing sweeps points this year, so I really hate to miss it.
Hopefully we'll make the OR RQE.....if all the girls aren't in heat. Get that registered dog going! Hope we'll see you soon!
