Low coon population excuse!!

Never in coonhound history has there been so many what I call one dementional dogs that intentionally pass up coons you walk behind the right dog you will find out there is no shortage of coons just like when you get a good possum dog there is one in every tree jmo.

Ain't NO shortage here,,they are everywhere,,especially this year,,I can't believe how thick they are this year.
I have a female that hunts medium range,300 to 700 yards,,buddy has a get deep dog,,while going to his dog for that,,one,,coon,,my dog has shown us several,,I have a 10 month old pup doing just like his momma,,all on his own also,,myself,,I don't like them get deep kindda dogs,,I won't own one,,but I sure do like those medium hunting dogs...

Y'all are like putty in my hands lol!! Along comes a kc that don't have the leash lock and anouther one that the members are talking about they want it changed and finally a stud dog that reproduces honest strike dogs that tree enough coons to win ( it's going to get berrie interesting) lol.
Ps: there will be a special section in the classifieds before long just for ole mouthy, deep, and alone for sale by the thousands because they will saying just can't beat those silent trailers that got coons in their trees lol.

YOU CAN'T POLISH A TURD !

The day somebody with a barn burner comes to my territory and leash locks me by treeing a bunch of coons behind me. Thats the day I start hunting blueticks or maybe even that cur hound breed. Im always here waiting to see it. Havent saw it yet. Ive been watching.

Here is the sad part about all of this. I agree with all of you but I also live in todays world. The dogs have changed and the younger generation has learned to win with how they have changed and for them there is no change because a go yonder dog is what they cut their teeth on. The change has been witnessed by the older guys not the young ones. It gets even sadder. The change not only makes the older guys scratch their heads but puts them on the side lines or close to it because they can't keep up or refuse to walk that far for a circle tree. The younger guys strap on their boots and expect to cover two to three miles and probably more. Being on the sidelines causes frustration with the older guys and keeps a lot of good experience from being shared between generations. Not the overall sport of coonhunting but the actual hunt has about been taken out of me because of this. Two years ago I hunted right through the summer 6 nights a week. Last year was less and this year even less. I wake up every morning wanting to go. I go to bed every night wishing I had the energy to. With that said even though I agree with what was wrote about todays hounds, a lot of the big winners from yesterday was the same way. Just wasn't as many.
How many people remember judging many, many years ago and would discuss what the hardest part of judging was.
The hardest part of judging back in the day was when the dogs got split up. It wasn't common and all type of things were happening that wasn't wrote in the rules. A lot easier to judge 4 dogs staying together. So the dogs have changed, the rules have changed for those types of dogs and our legs have gotten older. Anyone remember a dog called King of the Road. Had a platform made kinda like they use to put on your car when you drove up to a drive in eating place. I know the younger guys never saw one of those either. lol Anyway that might be an idea for some of us. Anyone know of any offspring from "The King of the Road"
Heck wife is still sleeping, think I will sneak some hotdogs out and go train my hounds to load. Just have to remember how many pieces to break them into. If two or three jump up there and get to fighting for the hotdog do you think that will carry over to the tree? If one doesn't show any interest you think I should tie him back and move up to steak for the one that jumps up? If they bark before jumping up you think they might going to be a babbler? I just don't get it. If my dog is going to go two miles to tree a coon and I don't get to hear any of the race. Shouldn't I just be allowed to hear that wonderful mouth babbling a little when he is throwing dirt in my face heading for the nearest road to run.

Mike, Yadkin wrote a this in another post and I really think it has merit.

Teaching a dog to load break hot dog In 3 pieces give dog first one put next one on tailgate when he jumps up there put next one on top of dog box by time you use up a full pack dog should be loading plus I get a piece once and while just to make sure they are ok lol.

I was just thinking ahead and wondering what problems I might have if I taught two or three to load at the same time.
You know these dogs now a days fight over anything, bark all the time and psychological training methods have to be used for those that don't have the genetics to tree. Just worried how many problems I could cause teaching one to load with a hot dog?

Hot dogs make them jump like kangaroos Jim !! Me my jumping days are over but I still like to eat them.

Id like to have one that makes coon appear where I thought they were not many. Seriously. I'll trade a popup camper for one.

Dawg back in the day we called them a layup dog one like that would put a hurting on them now just like I said a lot of these dogs today are one dementional not well rounded in all departments. To much zig not enough zag !!

Having a big hunter on the place is like having a gun in the house. I'd rather have it and not need it as to need it and not have it. Once it gets winter around my house you better have it if you hunt public hunting places. Unless you want to walk one long distances to get strikes. I'd rather aim one and drive to them. Makes for getting home earlier and walking less.

in my part of the country all ya need is a dog without a hollow spot between the ears! and have that natural ability to know where and how to find a coon!! and tree it rather its running or just laying up!! Not a hard thing to do! but people make it sound like a complicated task!! to tree a coon!! but that comes from all the competition hunts! people have that mind set!!they want ya to think old SPOT got a mile in there and treed a rough one!! DAAAA!! on those cold frosty nts here I can take my pups out and tree 6-12 coon!! hunt them from the truck!! never have to walk thru someones yard to get to them!! COON ARE NOT COMPLICATED TO TREE! PEOPLE MAKE IT SOUND THAT WAY!!lmao

It's slowly changing back the way it was just remember last strike and first tree twice with the meat beats first and first deep with the meat every time.

Chewbach it is hard to tree a coon if you ant looking for one.lol
