Training Question about hunt time
Got a pup she's 9 months old hunts good, tracks good, right now lacks tree power doesn't want to stay by herself.
Now to my question, last night they treed a coon (her and my black dog) 125 yrds from the sxs. About a 25 minute hunt by the time i got them unloaded collared up and sent down the creek. IT DONT ALWAYS GO LIKE THAT!!!
Would you, quit for the night or put more woods time on the dogs for the night?

Id keep hunting. How could it hurt?If she does something wrong its a chance to correct her.She may slip up and do something good.ha.She cant do anything at home.Guess it depends on how lazy you are and how often you can go hunting.lol.I have definitely turned em loose one more time and regretted it.
It doesn't have anything to do with being lazy. I wondered how guys that train dogs would handle the hunt, end on good note quick lesson. Or cut again and let the pup do what its gonna do, maybe she trees another one maybe she runs for 2 hrs just barking.
What is the best way to end the night for the dog?

If u got a pup that learns quick....keep hunting it.
If you got a pup that learns slow ....put it up.
U gotta figure out your pup's mentality, as they all are different , even coming from the same litter.
One size don't fit all.
Set your young dog up for success. When he has success, take him home. Making a coon dog is not an overnight phenomena. If you wanna keep hunting, take the pup home and go back out with your old dog.
In good hunting with a great coon population I’m going to keep hunting. Thin coon I’m going to quit for the night. My opinion is to try to end a young dogs night on a good note if possible. As the dog progresses I try to put them in harder situations to make them have to improve.
