I know Genetics brought us to where we are today!

But it takes a love for the sport. A knowledge of getting the most out of your dog. An understanding that each dog is different. Then countless hours in the timber/swamps. If you're waiting for the perfect dog to come along. You're wasting time. If you fall in love with each dog and keep it a lifetime. You're wasting time, unless you just want a lap dog. Nothing easy about this sport and it's not all kindness. It's a firm grip on reality that will get you and your dog to the finish line. If I had studied dog behavior as much as I studied pedigrees. I think things would have been different in my kennel. Dogmen/women are kind of like that special dog we are looking for. They don't come in bunches like bananas. But the dog needs someone on the other end of it's leash that expects results and demands results and knows how to get results.

Successful Dog Trainers

Trainers must be honest with their selves and not confuse reality with what they hope for. Their plan has to have time sensitive goals with a backup plan.

Absolutely agree! I was blessed to be taught from what I consider great houndsmen at a young age. I'm still learning as all of us should be. I demand so much more out of a dog now then what I did when I was younger and the results are there.

I learned a long time ago that if you raise a dog and you are still calling it a puppy and making excuses for it when it is 2 years old you are wasting time!

Genetics

Personally, I play the hand I am dealt. I choose a pup that I has the potential of being the kind of hound I want, but once I take on the challenge of training it I will try and do my best to bring out it's best. I can't make them do anything but I can stop them from doing everything. The difference is knowing what to do and when. Most times it' keeping your nose out of it and let them learn, their genetics will determine how good they will be

Mrains you make a good point and I feel your right. For me I also feel there is a time to cull or sell. I want to do my part but they better do there part or I'm on to the next project.
