Little help?

Recently acquired an older dog, a real life accurate coon dog. Since I’ve had her she has scratched her sides a lot. So much so that the hair is coming out. She’ll scratch and bite and pull it out. I’ve changed her feed. I’ve changed her bedding. I’ve tried Blue Coat, but she just licks it off.
Any ideas what could cause this? Any remedies? It’s not completely bare on her sides, just thinned down a lot.

Some dogs are allergic to fleas. Just a couple of fleas will cause hair loss. You could try one of those higher prices flea collars (celestro??). That solved my problem.

thyroid issue

Bought a dog with same issue. Guys said he couldn't believe she had gotten such a bad case of mange while at his buddies place. Got her checked at vets & it wasn't mange at all, but did have low thyroid. Cleared up as soon as we put her on thyroid med to get her back in balance. Take care, Ron.

Atopic Dermatitis

Great advice provided so far. I have a dog with Atopic Dermatitis with similar symptoms to your dog. If the other solutions don’t resolve it, you might check it out. It took me quite a while to get my dog properly diagnosed and treated.

Treat her the same way you would treat yourself. Give her alergy medicine and see what she does.
