Changing Times
I guess, i'm just getting old, but i have come to hate change, use to be when i got CoonHound Bloodlines, i would look for Dave Dean's article, Darrell Holland's article, and Guy Ormiston's article. Today out of the 3 magazines, Full Cry, has the most storys, the Plott guys are writeing the best breed articles, because they will tell about a bear hunt that happened during, the 1920's or 1930's. None of the 3 are as good as they use to be, they are getting darn right boreing, same old stuff. Kind of like the old ukc employee, who for years was a died in the wool Plott man, now he writes all these, boring storys, about his walker pup, and the walker breed on, how great ,they are. If you go back, to were that breed started, you will, find, fox hounds, black&tans, redbones, english, which the walkers came out of the english breed. The Plott breed, is the purest, as they have had the least, input from other breeds, and i have seen, some plotts, that were better, than most guys, outstanding walker dogs. Kind of like WaLMART, they replaced the floor, and moved, everything, were you can't find nothing.

Full cry has added “Historical Stories” to the magazine...I really like them on account they are interesting and the magazine needs to survive...
It becoming a bigger challenge for all types of hunting including with dogs...
Some might not agree and I would say those that don’t agree are lucky...but I am talking about the masses...and it’s only going to become a bigger challenge with time...and time is not on our side...

Training dogs is not so much about quantity, it's more about timing, and the right situations...After that it's up to the dog....A hunting dog is born...
Times are changing have a large hunt today two weeks later ask who won it nobody knows. The young folks are right here right now they don’t care about history. They spend more now to go to hunts a year than some of us old doggies paid for our house. To many hunts there is no prestige in winning one but they just want instant gratification get that money.

Dogs
It's called a rat race and after a little while it gets old for most. The plott breed has more crossbred dogs than any probably why because they have closed books and they do it behind the barn I've seen pups with white all over them with the best plotts in there pedigree This is what happens when you close the books on a breed and no single registered dogs I have a picture of one now that has some white on his face and he is bred the best there's no way the plott breed is any more pure than the rest of them.
When your new pup is tripled up on it’s mother’s , daddy’s , uncles, cousin , on his grandpas side that’s a little to pure for me.

Old Storys
An old friend of mine has always hunted, black&tans, he's always hunted, better than average coon hounds. One fall at Autumn Oaks, he drew James Merchant, and Dave Dean, Dean was hunting a really good female, Carl Hanselman, was hunting a dog named Preacher, that he later, sold to Dal Johnson. Carl won the cast with his preacher dog, but after, Dal Johnson, had the preacher dog a few weeks, he got in a conibear trap and was killed. But i would have liked to have been there, just a fly on the wall.
