New Eastpointe MI adopts new animal ordinance

New Eastpointe MI adopts new animal ordinance.

According to the ordinance, pet owners cannot leave a dog of ANY BREED or SIZE unattended outdoors between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Additionally, it will be UNLAWFUL to leave a dog outdoors when temperatures are below 43 degrees or 82 degrees (we assume they mean above).

Requires owners to have NO MORE THAN ONE NON-SPAY female dog and ONE NON-NEUTERED male dog. An owner of non-altered dogs of the opposite sex will be required to spay or neuter one of them BY THE AGE OF ONE year to prevent breeding.

Having a dog inside of a garage or shed is considered inadequate shelter.

Kennel permit applications will no longer be offered.

I spent a couple of hours going through the complete ordinance last night. It is not good for us.

Cropping & docking of ears and tails "shall be considered mutilation or cruelty", unless it is performed by a registered veterinary surgeon while the dog is under anesthesia.

No vet is going to perform tail docking on a 3 day old tiny puppy, because the use of anesthesia on such a young pup is too dangerous.

Mutilation and animal cruelty are now considered a felony.

The people behind this ordinance have clearly stated that they want to have this ordinance spread throughout the state of Michigan, and I have no doubt that they will push this, and push it hard. These are the same people who were involved in all of the breeder raids and kennel shut-downs several years ago, and they have also been instrumental in shutting down most of the pet stores in the Detroit metro area.

This is happening on all over the country animal rights groups getting similar laws passed town by town and city by city.

There needs to be a law that protects us from these liberals...they can follow these types of rules if they choose...that is ok with me and should be with anyone else...but these dumb ordinance’s and laws should be against the law to begin with...this is supposed to be a free country...

Ordinances

If you look at most ordinances in township there is a lot of stupid laws. Mostly to appease the person who complains the most. Or to the person who puts up the most resistance to authority. I see and hear it all the time in this small town I live in. From parking a commercial vehicle parked overnight in your driveway to where you can stack your wood for the winter. Someone complained enough they would make an ordinance to stop that person from complaining. (Seems to be the American way now a days). And knowing Eastpoint is a suburb of Detroit you're dealing with a lot of city folk. I think most hunters are trying not to be the complaining type. Which puts us at a disadvantage to the person who goes to every meeting and ends up getting what they want. You either comply or become an outlaw... or maybe run for office. But yes they're attacking our rights!

Vote, vote, vote... elect sensible local officials. Your local government usually has more direct effect on you life than the federal government. Only about 1/2 of eligible voters turn out for a Presidential election... I'm confident it is even way less for local city council and county board elections. Vote, vote, vote.
