New Youngster Wanting Dog.

I need to start looking for another dog. I took my 9 year old son out last week for the first time. He come to me today and asked if he could get his own dog. He brought me all his money he has saved and asked if I I thought he could buy a good dog with it. He has 153.00. Lol. I didn't have the heart to tell him no but I told him I would see what I could do.

All we have right now is a B&T pup that I am working with. I had a 2 year old that couldn't get it done own his own so I sold him just this past week. When we were out with that dog last week he kept asking me why we didn't see any coon. I had to explain the cycle of a dog and that some dogs take longer to get going an such.

If anyone has something that will get it done close to NW Ohio could you please message me. I want this to be his deal. I will let you discuss the deal with him. I want him to think he is the one buying the dog. I will chip in and help him if I can because I know that obviously that 153.00 doesn't mean a lot to us but to him it's a ton. I don't care what breed as long as he is happy with the hound.

I know your trying to do well, and asking politely. However to get a decent dog, it's gonna cost some money. Dogs are no different then guns, trucks or many of the other tools that we use in outdoor hobbies. It's very very tough to find a good one, with out spending some cash. It's just how it is. The amount of time and energy that goes into training one, takes to much time, feed, gas, energy to give one away. Coon dogs are very cost effective especially when compared to pointers and flashers. Now before you think all is hopeless, you live in one of the finest areas in the country to for coon hunting from what I hear. If fur prices ever bounce back in your area, a good coon dog, could easily pay for himself in 2 seasons. Do your homework, hunt with bunch of dogs, find a good one, and pay the guy whatever he wants. It sounds simple but it is very difficult to find a good dog, let alone find one that is for sale.

Thanks guys I actually have a couple leads on some older dogs for him. When the time is right I am gonna let him know. There are a lot of generous guys around here that want to keep the hunting going in the youth and I can't wait to see his face when we decide what we are going to do.
