any suggestions?

I got a walker dog about seven weeks ago. Guy I got him from said he had been ran 3 times with his older dogs. I got him use to the woods showed him a Caged coon and he didn't do anything with it but I continued to take him out and one night he struck track and treed one. Since then he has treed six coon on his own in the past 10 times I've had him out. That is tracked and treed pretty hard. I first thought he wasn't finishing the track sometimes but I now know he's coming off tree. Took him out tonight and saw 5 coon in four drops where I know and could see he was treed. As soon as I get about 50-70 yards away he come off every time. He doesn't run any junk and I don't run with any one else. Tried a Caged coon to try and maybe boost his tree power/confidence but he doesn't mess with them much. Any ideas? He's 14 months old. Great blood.

If your getting that close i'd either grab him and drag him back in there and tie him right to the tree the coon is in or switch him and tell him to get his *ss back on the tree. One thing I'd leave my fingers off of though if I were you is the E'collar. I wouldn't want him thinking he's done anything wrong EXCEPT leaving the tree.
I really doubt you have a real big problem there. He's only 14 months old and if he really wasn't getting hunted much he's still learning. Your seeing coon I'd be pretty happy with that and keep plugging away, he'll get it.

Has he had any knocked out to him?

Seen one act like that once and she was gunshy...left the tree to avoid possible gunfire, even though most of the time a gun wasn't involved. Might be the reason your dog was for sale...if there are two times people will say anything it's when they are buying or when they are selling.
Funny how dogs will act when they don't like a gun. I would have thought that if a dog was gunshy it wouldn't take any chances by treeing a coon. But, they always go hunting and they usually look good doing it...at least right up to the point where they leave the tree.
Otherwise, what does the dog do if you walk in and watch him leave but you just stand there??? Does he go back to the tree eventually???

I would try sneaking into him without light on while he is treed,,sounds like to me he sees your light and he wants to greet you,,tie him up and give him some praise,,then I would drop some fur down to him and praise him some more,,he'll catch on to the rewards of what comes out of the tree if he stays treed,,he's young,,be patient and give it some time,,but I would tie him to tree if you can and praise him and give him some fur

He has had one shot out to him. The gun didn't seem to bother him. When he leaves the tree he will go find another track if the woods is big enough. I hunt some smaller block woods here in indiana and it seems in the smaller woods he sticks to the tree better. Thanks for the input!
