how can i keep my water buckets thawed out in winter?
i was lookin for a battery powered probe that might be inserted in the water bucket to keep the water from freezing this winter any suggestions???
You can put a stick or board in bowl to keep it from freezing as fast due to ice will climb the stick/board Or you could go to rv store and get some 12 v heating elements for campers and put thermostat on them and fab ya a water bowl
I used one like this last winter for the first time and it worked AWESOME! Even on the -20 degree days it stayed thawed.

Unfortunately, a 12 volt heater will only work 1/10 as well as a 120 volt one. Put another way it will take 10 times the power to keep the bowl from freezing for a 12 volt heater than a 120 volt one.
Not worth it.
I buy my water bowls from a place called rural king. They are exactly like the ones at Walmart but they are only 12$ on sale. The best thing if you have a hound that wants to chew a cord. Only one time. They learn fast.
