advice
have a 9 month old pup. he will tree a turn loose coon with no problem but started hunting him by his self on buckets and he'll open up on the track and sometimes throws a locate but hasn't pulled a tree yet. is it a confidence thing or am I expecting too much out of him? He's got good sense and I've had him run a track 300yds but always gives up on it and comes back
Little bit of both. He's learning. Give it time and keep running it. If you can get to it before it leaves the tree, pet it up to let it know that it did good.

Is the pup watching the turn loose leave?
I keep him in the box and turn the coon loose and wait a good 15-20 min and then cut him loose.
Pup
Be patient an keep huntin him. He will put it together. Good luck sounds like hez a good prospect.

Confidence thing IMO...he just ain't sure...
I found a lighted collar really helps...once he is running track get close..see what tree he hits on....he probably doesn't go real far from it...get to it asap...I even beat them to a tree with a coon if I find it before they do...which isn't too tough with a youngun...when he comes back or whatever get him to sniff on and tree that tree and pet and praise him...
Gotta let em know they did good...after some work they will get it...if they are ever going too....
People expect a dog to go tree a coon...and to me I just don't know why....they gotta learn that treeing coons is what we want them to do....once in a while you get one that will go and hunt and tree coon...but the majority all need a little helping especially if starting them alone...and a good bit of patience...time spend in the woods and working with the dog to develop its skills and bring out its instincts...
