Need some advice with female urinating a lot??

I have a 20 month old female that I have noticed urinates a lot in the kennel more than any of the other dogs. Would this have something to do with type dog food i'm feeding or maybe just a bladder infection. Any feed back would be appreciated.

Jan it could be an infection, but I seen it with pride dog feed on one of my females, dont know how much salt was in pride but there water intake was twice as normal an urinated twice as much.

This is a question that may have to be answered by your vet to check for an underlying problem bladder or kidney infection . Usually problems with food involve the corn content more during the summer months because of the heat it generates causes increased thirst & can cause increased urination - it is not such a problem in the winter (but I still feed grain free Victor year around ) . Female dogs can also have prolapsed uteruses . The muscles holding the uterus become weakened cause it to tilt , where the uterus can be putting pressure on the bladder causing her to go more . Something that can help with bladder infections is AZO cranberrry pills found at Wal-Mart or Dollar General . They will turn the urine bright orange but are a natural cure , a serious infection will require antibiotics , but the cranberry will still help along with it . Is this a new problem or something she's had for sometime/always ? Also is she a younger female or older - my 11 yr old squirrel dog who stays in the house has to go all the time & it's just an age issue & umpteen litters of pups . If in doubt have your vet run a urinalisis to check things out a little more in depth .

Probably a simple UTI. A trip to the vet is in order. My vet always prescribes Clavamox.

We got a female that does it a lot bout a week b4 she comes n heat an the whole time she is n heat!

Thanks for all the feedback. Took her to the vet and she had a bladder infection. We got her on some Ciprofloxacin and she should be good here in a wk or so.

Cipro is good even for humans - get her some of those cranberry pills (AZO'S) to give with it & for a week or so after antibiotics are done . Ask any woman in your life and they will tell you the wonders of cranberry & bladder infections . Won't hurt her & they are just a couple of bucks for a box. Will turn the pee orange but naturally cleanses the bladder & kidneys .

my redbone had a UTI once when she was young and would cry every time she peed. that was the only time Ive ever had one. have to watch the ones that "lay it on the ground" to pee.
