where to start?

IM 18 and love for hunting I have four English coon hounds and wanna start a kennel and blood line what's the best way to go about it?

look at the dogs u have and if u have one special hound u like start from there and breed from there or there are a lot of good breed dogs out there to pick from,look at them and pick the breed that has the traits u like best.jmo

First thing you need to know is to NOT take advice from people on this forum, use it as recreation only. Next would be to hunt every night and when you think you have a hound that suites you almost perfectly then it maybe time to think about seeing if it will reproduce.

Learn the people, not necessarily what you read about the dogs. I've learned over the years if you deal with good people you'll usually end up with good hounds. Once you do your homework and find the people go hunting with them and see how their dogs operate, you gotta know what you like in a hound and know what is out there before you can start enjoying hunting and breeding anything! How do you know what you want if you don't know what you options are....there are many good people to talk to and hunt with that will help you in the breed. GOOD LUCK!!!

Great advice Tackett, i agree 100%-- an don't buy into all the hype thats on the message board!! go hunt with the hounds
an find what you like in a hound an go from their-- hope your in it
for the long run, because it takes years!!! good luck
