Some of the nicest golf courses in the country. The Robert Trent Jones golf trail is well known and nice. The Florence area on the Tennessee River in the North West corner of the state is a nice area. The Gulf Shores area down on the coast is really nice is time of year. If you are a NASCAR fan a trip to the Museum at
the Talledega track right of I-20 on the eastern side of the state
would be worth your time. Maybe this will give you some ideas.

Fishing & Golf
Within a 100 mile radius of Birmingham is a top 10 Large mouth lake (Lake Guntersville), a top 10 small mouth lake (Pickwick Lake) and a top 10 Kentucky spot lake (Lewis Smith Lake). All of these lakes offer great cabin stays and great golf facilities close by. The previous poster was on the money with the Robert Trent Jones golf trail. Those are some of the finest public golf courses in the southest.
If I were planning a trip I would look at Lake Guntersville and the cabin oppurtunities. There are several great golf courses around. Goose Pond, Gunters Landing and Hampton Cove (Robert Trent Jones Course). The landscape around Guntersville is awesome.
Hope this helps
If you are going to just relax, I would hit Gulf Shores....good beaches and clear water. You can find a condo on the cheap through VRBO.com There are several nice golf courses in the area. There are some good intercoastal and off shore fiishing. And there are some really good seafood resturants in the area.

Taking the family to Gulf Shores from Kentucky the week of July 4th. We have never been and really looking forward to it. My son and I would love to see some of the swamps like we see on TV in "Swamp People" How far of a ride from Gulf Shores to see some of these swamp lands? Maybe even hook up with Troy and "CHOOT UM"
