Framing those pedigrees

I'm looking for ideas on displaying the extended UKC pedigrees. I love the frames UKC has but needing to frame 6 of them, I can fit that into my pocketbook. Has anyone found inventive ways to display theirs?
I want to put them up on the wall of our kennel's office/grooming room. This way, puppy customers can see those pedigrees for themselves easily. They don't have to be fancy, just nice.

I've seen one done up pretty neat. The man went to walmarts or Meijers where ever you can purchase a frame a little bigger than the ped. then he put all different pictures of that particular hound around the outside edge of the ped. Looked really great. Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK. -Angie-

Thanks, Angie. That is a great idea.

My nephew and I were talking and came up with another idea too. Take a piece of wood, cut a few inches larger than the ped on each side. Then attach a piece of plexiglass to the front. Then place ribbons and/or photos of hound all around the ped. I was thinking to place a smaller frame next to the pedigree or a series of smaller ones around it with photos of their offspring as well. I'm lucky that puppy buyers send me lots of updates and photos. Suppose you could put puppy photos around the ped too. But all the frames I find are so expensive and so is the plexiglass I've priced at hardware stores. Was thinking maybe garage sales, goodwill, etc and gathering up large windows and such and having those cut to size? But that sure would take a lot of searching to find enough glass.

I priced having them laminated. Thought that was expensive at $6/ea LOL So maybe laminating them and placing them on a board and putting 'something or other' around the edges to give illusion of crafty type frame. Given our kennel name is Ironwood, maybe some ironwood twigs?

Just thinking as I type... more ideas please. =) Could be an interesting thread!

Dollar general used to sale a frame that you could put about 10 different pics in. when you take the back off the frame, the sheet will fall out and you will have a cheap oak frame $5.00 They also sale laminating paper at walmart......its really not that hard to do either.

Thanks for the tips!
John used to manage the local Dollar General here. Never saw a frame big enough but their stock is always different. I'm definately going to go scouting on that one! Thanks!

Funny story on laminating... I used to raise parrots and rare softbills. I wanted to laminate my price list and policies. I used my fax machine to run a couple copies to do it with. As soon as the lamination sheets were pressed onto it, all the writing disappeared right before my eyes like magic. LOL Moral of the story, don't laminate laser fax paper. haha
I've looked for laminating. Even the machines at the Office Depot. Unless I get into the major bucks, no machines big enough and I haven't seen the sheets large enough either. Maybe, again, I'll have to check a different store or ask them to order them. Nice to know they are out there!

walmart carries laminating paper in big rolls.....10.00, I think..... we just bought some last winter, It was in the same area as plastic on rolls, maybe they stopped carrying it...........I havent bought frames at a dollar general i several years, the next time I'm around one I'll check.

One idea - Go to the mall and try to find the frames they put movie posters in, they are big enough to center the pedigree in and put pictures around, they have plexiglass fronts. I have three in my office that I put movie posters in and I plan to use them to display my favorite dogs pedigree and certificates with pictures from pup and older.

I like your idea using the natural wood...I have a piece of driftwood I was going to make a table display and attach a piece of plexiglass and mount a picture to using the drifwood as a base. I'm sure you could come up with a lot of good ideas! Good luck!

Another good idea, Doug. I knew posting my question on this board would prove to be fruitful. You guys are awesome.
We are about as far into the sticks as you can get and still not be able to get away with squatters rights (someone tried this down the road last summer. lol) but once in a blue moon we do get to the mall. I'll make sure I look. Better yet, I'll tell all my young teenage nieces and nephews to keep their eyes open for me! ;-)
