Oak island, NC Wrightsville Beach, NC Carolina Beach, NC Fort Fisher, NC Myrtle Beach, SC You can drive and camp on the North End of Carolina Beach, that area is called Freeman Park. Fort Fisher has drive on beach access but I dont know hours or cost bc its a state park

The grand strand is highly commercial with all kinds of things to do for the tourists. Edisto beach is mostly beach houses Only a few resturants and bars, with a state park at the north end if you're camping. Hunting Island is all state park and you have a long run to make for beer, food etc , also a curfew. LOL. I go to Edisto usually because it is life a family beach and i got lots of family to indulge on. The prices are cheaper now than they were a couple years ago due to the economy. Hilton Head is nice, nice , nice but ritzie. Fripp Island is next to hunting Island , a little more up scale than Edisto. But None of them but the Grand Strand are choked with kiddie rides and so forth. I like fishing, shrimping behind Hunting and Fripp better than Edisto usually. The grand strand has beach but no Marsh, The kids go for the beach and I go to the marsh. LOL
thanks for all the info. My wife and kids have never seen the ocean, so I am looking for a peaceful place to take them with out spending a bunch of money if I don't have too. We want to rent a hotel for two nights and enjoy the beach, that is all she want to do. lol, so what will be closer and is still a good place to go with the family without all the people. thanks again.

.Hilton Head...............lots of stuff to do, good food, eat at the crazy crab..............visit Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge just before Hilton Head...you'll see some coons.........lol
Since you're looking for peaceful, I would have to agree with lyle.
I prefer Hunting and Fripp also, Myrtle Beach is out of the question for you, it's a blowed up Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge.
Edisto would more than likely be what you're looking for. They don't have hotels the last I checked, but you can search online and find beach houses fully equipped for a decent price.
