i have a 7 month old female that i just showed her her first 2 drags and she trailed and treed them but she never barked is their anything i can do to make her bark? or will she bark with age?



and also should i start making her drags longer and when should i take her to find some wild coons? thanks jd

They vary I've had some that was stone silent on track until they got to be 3 years old or so and then turned into wide open trailers. Had only one dog that was for the most part silenet his whole life.

i personally like a tight mouth dog on track. Tight mouth dogs seem to get under coon a little faster than a dog that opens a ton. If they not barking they are thinking.

I like mine to start barking when I head toward the pen and still be barking when I walk back in the house, not!

In my experience very few dogs will bark on a drag. Out of the last 10 or so pups I have worked on a drag I have only had one that would consistently bark on the trail, most just find the tree and fall treed. If she is trailing and treeing the drag she should be OK. She will open in the woods on a live coon.
