single dog box??
any recommendations on a dog box to haul a single dog?? something the dog actually has room in?? thats my biggest gripe against 2 dog boxes..the space and door is tiny...i wouldnt wanna be shoved in there either...and, i only haul 1 dog..period..(dont start with the "well if your on a cast a nite hunt someone might need a ride because they spent their gas money on their entry fee" LOL!)
storage is optional..i know it costs more..but i reckon it would come in handy..
any recommendations?? not looking to break the bank...but looking for something nice to haul the dog in when shes too dirty or wet to ride shotgun...
dont see too many single dog haulers...but i want one and want one sized to haul a good sized hound dog comfortably...
thanx
Im still laughing til I'm crying. I hunt and travel on bumpy roads. I did not want to throw my dog in a hollow he had to laydown in and I did not want to keep messing with enough bedding to keep from beating him to death. At the time I had a 28 inch Coma dog at the shoulder with his head to keep from getting pounded took 34 inches . Now I had haulded horses and their legggs are expected to absorb the shock , so that was my dimesions I had in mind when I homemade welded up a box . Well it was so high I could not see out the rearview mirror , so I cut a slit out so I could.
When I got to town the gas station man asked me if it was market day cause I didn't have a goat in my "Goatbox". That was embarrassing for a young fellow. But if I was hauling a dog from comp hunt to comp hunt, state to state, I would probably get that old box out the bushes LOL.
L.Lyle..thats funny. I kinda did the same thing. I built a box once and was thinking theres no way a dog can fit good in these boxes. Once I got done that sucker went almost to the top of the 4 Runner I built it to go in. Them dogs had plenty of head room though..LOL

I usually hunt alone. I built my own box. I had the hinges and screws allready. I paid for the wood and the latch. I think the box is 27 inches tall. My truck has a solid front axle and shocks that were put on the truck in 87 LOL! It's a bouncy son of a gun now! I take it easy when i'm hauling the dog. I have ridden with guys who seemingly ramp everything in sight. The way I look at it is, if it takes me 10 min to get to point A without bouncing the dog all over the box... then it takes me 10 min
SINGLE DOG BOX info
I handle dogs for an Owens dealer. He has a selection of sizes in SINGLE dog boxes as well as double - will give you measurements & recommendations if you ask.

I bought one of these last year, Im suprised how much I like it, it is very handy to take in and out of the truck and plenty of room for 2 dogs.
thanx guys...seems some of y'all agree that many of the boxes on the market are just ridiculously sized..right now i let her ride shotgun when shes clean/dry...and throw one of them big plastic "pet porters" or whatever in the back of the truck...
it works...but flimsy and not ideal..she can stand up and can turn around and everything in it no problem and doesnt fly around in it...
figured they might make a single dog hauler of proper size...most of the 2 dog jobs on the market are about a joke in size...be good if your hauling toy dogs around...but, last time i looked coon hounds can get to be pretty big..i aint gunna be limited to running a small dog just so it fits my dog box! lol
i understand that guys been using the cramped boxes for a long long time...and i know they have a little more room than they look to..but i got a male at the farm that wont fit in the door of most of them lol...i just rather my dog be comfortable..not cramped into a tiny space..
i will look at the owens...thats what im lookin for right now..stuff to look at and ponder..then find some dealers around and go see them in person or have one ordered..
or might end up making one...might have to put plexi glass in so i can see through it..lol but my dog is gunna be comfy!
Check with Diamond Deluxe, they will make you what ever size you want, they have a website with contact info.
