Hound not interested!!!

I would like to know of a reputable coonhound training facility around WV, PA or MD.

I have an 8 month old bluetick hound who shows absolutely no interest in a hide, drag, live coon NOTHING!!!

Is he too young? Not ready yet? Is there still hope for him? Would a training place do him any good?

He comes from great bloodlines and is a great dog all around.
I have a 9 month old who is starting to bark on a caged coon already and maybe I shouldn't compare them to each other but he comes from better blood than she does, just thought he would start quicker than her.

It is a Bluetick thing wait till he is around 10-13 months old then try him slow matureing yes it is in the blood line sorry but Most Blues are slow to start

Not the ones I fool with or have ever been around. Some dogs just start sooner than others. Don`t give up on him yet.

start early. Hounds in general, even from the same litter are ready to start at different times. You have to give them time to get to the right age for them. It makes a lot of difference in the pups if you spend a lot of time with them as small pups and until they are about 16 weeks old as far as them being able to learn. Still, they will not start until the are ready.

Do you have another dog that will run and tree?? If so just start taking him to the woods teach him how to get around in timber, if you hunt where there are fences teach him how to go under over or whatever. My young dog would go then come back with older dogs untill one night he didn't come back, he was at the tree watching the other dogs and smelling around. Just give him a little more time.

I was having the same problem then just all of a sudden the switch flipped and now she's a first strike but still needs a little treeing help!! Be patient sometimes its frustrating but worth the wait!!

Didn't mean all Blue were that way just most I have delt with in my 24 years of coonhunting.Some go on to be supper dogs I have seen one of the best hide dogs never even left the mans feet till he was 16 months old but once he went man did he go.

I agree the dog will start when he is ready. A training pen may be a good thing for him. Just remember this, a training pen is nothing more than they show a dog what a coon is and where he goes when the dog gets after him. Please do not think that he will come back a treeing machine.
