couple training ?'s
I have an 11mo. old female that has treed a coon turned loose, with her nose not by sight. Since then she has had at least 2 red hot tracks that I know of, one I turned loose the other I saw run across a road last night. On the 2 I know of the coons ran in a bean field. Is it hard for a young dog to track through beans? She starts to run them, but gives up after about 5-10 mins. Second ? is, when starting a pup do you just turn them loose and sit on the tailgate or walk with them. The first few times out she wouldn't leave my light so I walked her, last night on the first drop she left and I sat on the tailgate for almost an hour before she came back. Loaded her up and found the coon crossing the road I mentioned previously. I don't have an older dog to hunt her with. Thanks for any help.

yes james it is hard for a lot of dogs even old dogs to push a old coon out of the beans or now the corn that is broke down. if a dog wont go you have to walk it for a time.it sounds as if yours is on the right track and no you dont need a old dog some times it is best not to hunt it with other dogs. and last a red hot coon crossing a road has leaft a good number of dogs scratching there heads. you would think it should be a easy slam treed thing but 90% they get away the best thing you can do is just keep going to the woods night after night the light will click on one night and it is easy street from there. i live by jasper if you need any help just call.i am sitting here at home while two pups are working a track as i type right now in a few i will go see ol ring tale

thanks trueblue once I get her going good we'll have to get together for a hunt sometime. I've heard the beans would give them trouble, but just wanted to make sure. I don't want to make any excuses for her. I really think she will make it unless I do something wrong.

Just got back in tonight and we saw two coons cross in front of us again. I slowly came to a stop before we got to where we saw them, and unloaded her. She immediatly ran to the last place we saw them. She never barked but went about 15ft. in and stood on a tree. Then she backed off and came to me and went right back. I shined and she had 2 in it. She never barked but did stand on the tree and when I got there she never left. I scratched the base with a stick, patted on the tree, and squalled but she just wouldn't bark. Should I just keep hunting her hard? Maybe one more caged coon to get her barking? She has only had 2 and treed the first but lost the 2nd in the beans. Am I doing ok? What could I do better? Thanks.

pet her up tell her to speak too um and all that. you could turn a few more out for her but they pick up on that fast. norm two or three is all i show a pup. i just got back in a few min ago myself took one of my year old pups . that was treeing at 5 mo old he stop for a little while but is back at it now pretty good . but he still wont hammer on every tree. keep in minde not all dogs are 11 mo old treeing fools some start a little latter and are top notch dogs . so no it sound like your doing ok for now. do you still dump her out a walk her in the woods right ??

a little fur never hurts if given to them right.
