need help from the old timers

will a young dog (13) months old be apt to slick tree or tree backwards in a den when it's hot and the coons don't seem to be down? I hunted a UKC hunt last night with a dog that is deadly accurate and I mean accurate, but last night it was hot and muggy and nothing was down. He made 6 trees: 4 dens and 2 just thick and bushy. But, no eyes in any tree. The cast felt like he was slick but I couldn't minus him with the way those trees looked. Was it the hot weather and bad night or do I have the beginning of a problem? If so, how does a dead accurate pup turn into a slick treeing fool? Also, it could be I've over hunted him. He's been hunted just about every night for the past 2-3 weeks and really at least 3 times a week since he was 6 months old. I'm thinking about putting him up till mid-September. let me know what you all think.

to me you can't over hunt a dog this is what a dog is built for do you ever see a wolf thats over hunted this is just a human excuse last fall i hunted a pup 17 nights staight it didn't matter to him treed coons everynight and still trees coon everynight

this past week has been hard here in ohio we hunted the other night from 10 till 3 and didnt even see any drivin and the dogs were havin a tough time just have to keep them in the woods one hard track is better then ten easy ones

i agree with the previous two posts. But, you hunted 17 nights in the fall. The nights I've put in have all been recent, hot, and muggy. But, I think he may just be treeing kittens and I can't find them. I'm putting him up for one night and trying back tomorrow night at a place where I know the coons are and where they normally go up. If I don't see a coon tomorrow then I know something's not right.

I wouldn't worry about it right now.Could be the coon were already down for a drink and back in before you cast.
We were hunting one summer I remember in terrible hot weather.All the tracks appeared to be old bad ones.We kept starting earlier and earlier to try and figure out what was going on with our dogs or the coon.We got to where we were cutting loose as the sun was just going down.We were getting better tracks but they were still cold.
On the flip side when we started after midnight or 1:00 we got really good tracks.

last nite

last night we had 6 dogs in a registered ukc hunt. all dogs had high circle scores and the high point dog had 400+. He was the only dog to score in the hunt. I had 1500 circle. confusing and frustrating at the same time. had to be a record for circle points.

Coon are running out during the day here. No wonder some tracks are hard to finish at night. Lots of dens this time of year here and tree some kits!
