Ruling on use of laser light pointers in hunts

What is the official standing on using laser pointers in hunts?

It would be used for pointing out where the coon is.
If there was an advisor article on it, then i missed it.

Lasers are lights and the rules say only lights and squallers are to be used in aiding scoring.
the actual rule under Rule 17, General Information reads:
"No scoring aids to be used other than light or mechanical squallers. "

Yes, there is an Advisor on it and yes, you must have missed it. Page 44"Let There Be Light, Very Bright Lite".
They are legal scoring aids, you can use them to point out the coon.

Don't get caught using it in Michigan. I know people use them here, but they will whack you if they catch you using it.

Are you talking about a laser site or a laser pointer?

Posted by T.Beyer on 08-15-2009 08:34 PM:

The DNR officer I talked to said that at night, there is not distinction between the two. If they see you use it, you will be fined. When I asked about the artificial light source, he asked me if I the light was something that I could use to walk by. I said no, he said it does not fall under that ruling then.

That being said, talk to any two DNR officers in this area about any one subject, especially if it pertains to coon hunting and running dogs at night, and you will likely get two different answers.

I have wanted to use one for years in hunts, but always stayed away from it for the purpose stated above.
I've never gotten a ticket from the DNR, and I sure don't want to start. I would however like to use the laser pointer!

Well I guess I will have to take off my lazer grip sights on my ruger pistol they were the only way I could hit a coon with my pistol unless I used the whole clip LOL
