Underground Fence ?

I live on 5 acres off land and am thinking of doing the underground fence for my yorkies, that live in the house. What do you think about a hound pup wearing the collar. I don't think it could make it scared of crossing a fence, since there is no fence.

My brother has one and it don't work on his big dogs. It works fine on his smaller dog, but Hooch just runs really fast to get out of range of it.

Yeah I was thinking if I could let the pup run loose in the 5 acres until it is 8 or 9 month's old that would be better than a 5 x 10 kennel.

Most def...if it is a young hound then you could prolly break him from it. We didn't put my brothers up until Hooch was grown. He is around 125 lbs or so, and the fence doesn't really effect him much LOL!!

We have two 5-6 Acre Containment Areas "Invisable Fence Brand"

I have just finished Putting in a 4' Fence around the Whole Property with the Invisable Fence Signal Wire attched to the 4' Fence .. We have 16 Hounds and I could never afford to put collars on them all ... The pups had been going out hunting and the Older hounds were going with them So Up went the 4' Fence..

the collar gives a beep sound that tells them to stop or get shocked not any type of visual boundry. if your hound pup has alot of get up and go the collar will probably not work. it will quit shocking him when he gets past the fence. I had a beagle that would run through one to go hunting rabbits.

wireless fence

we got the wireless fence for our 4mon old bluetick.
he got so the shock didn't bother him. we had to contact petsafe
& they sent us a replacement collar that was adjustable up tp #6. the collar the system came w/ only went to #4.

the system held him until he was 8months, & then we got another
4mon bluetick. he would watch her run & stay in the boundries most of the time. then one cold snowy day in jan, we had let them out. the four mon had no collar, replacement collars for this
system are $135.00. they took off & were gone for 3 hrs.

the sm pup followed the older pup. i followed the tracks in the snow for a couple miles, in fields. then they came to the road,
i lost the trail. finally, when we got home they had come back.

went to tsc, & bought another collar. i wasn't looking & the 8mon chewed up the 4month olds collar.

so we just went out & got a trash breaker & watch them most of the time when they are out.

i guess the wireless system helped w/ 1 pup, but when the second dog came, was no help. that was only during the day. we crate the dogs at night. have just got A 10x10x6 kennel for them, now that summer is here. we know they'll run off if left alone all day w/ the wireless collars.

Just remember that while they may keep your dogs from getting out, they don't keep anything else - animal or human - from getting IN your yard. Too easy for a dog attack or a theft to occur IMO.
