He should try to use the pups momma to nurse them and then take them away when he can't watch them. Some new moms will do things like that with new pups but she may just be having post partem hormone problem and could care for them after she adjusts. If he can try to work with her and let her feed them she may take to the four that are left and be alright. At the least her milk is better for them even if he can't leave them alone with her. Muzzle her to start off if he is worried.
Give her lots of calcium - tums, ice cream, anything she'll take. Lack of calcium is often what inhibits mothering behavior and causes cannibilism. Also, make sure she feels safe. Fear of her surroundings - too open, too near other dogs, too many people - make her feel like "it's not safe to have babies, get rid of them".

Home to a bunch of short dogs who occasionally allow me the honor of holding the other end of their leads!
I agree i would sit with the mom and let them eat off her as much as possible and then take them from her. They need as much of the mother's milk as they can get, they get important antibodies from the mom. He can suppliment the feedings with what the vet gave but try to get the mom to feed them too.

Stimulation
Im not trying to sound like a know it all,but if the mom doesnt take to taking care of the pups unsupervised, make sure he stimulates the pups into using the bathroom.
A warm wash cloth works.
Good luck.

Shoot the mom and continue to feed the pups. Had one like that and trying to force mom to let them feed was a pain in a@@. She wouldn't lay still and didnt' want anything to do with the pups.
As far as worming them. I would start at 4 weeks and every 2 weeks after that. I use something I got from the vet that only takes like 1ml per pup and 3 ml for adult dogs.

Generally speaking, if the same effort was provided for the mother pre-whelp as the puppies post whelp, she may have never eaten one in the first place. If she is a maiden bitch or doesn't much care for her surroundings as far as it being comfortable and safe in her mind to raise a litter, she will consume the pups or attempt to move. Continuing to fuss with them will only make her worse, especially next time around. Having said that, in order to protect the pups, Iw ould allow them with her only supervised and if they are wee-wittle, clear your schedule and allow this as much as possible.
there maybe something wrong with the pups and the mother tried to eliminate them from the gene pool.
