Alan Cropsey is my State Senator, and an avid supporter of sportsman. I will pass on my concerns to him. The way I read the bill this actually pertains to races that are put on for public consumption ala the Horse racing vein. The simulcasting is a dead give away. THis is a bettign and gambling issue not an issue that will threaten our field trials. All that being said, my letter to him will be sent directly. They at least need to know we are watching.
I sent email to each of the members of the committe along with Senator Cropsey as well.

Tracy,
You are right that is the way it seems, however our Representatives in Lansing feel this could also effect clubs that hold money field trials and water races. Thank you for contacting your senator.

My first response...
Dear Tracy,
Thank you for contacting my office regarding Senate Bill 626, which I introduced to prohibit certain dog racing in Michigan.
The legislation is aimed at strengthening the prohibition on Greyhound racing and gambling. While this activity is currently illegal in the state, the penalty associated with hosting or participating in such an activity is very low. It could be profitable to host greyhound race and pay the fine under current law. This bill would create a fine of $5,000 per occurrence and up to 93 days of jail time, raising the fine to a level that will serve as a greater deterrent.
As introduced, the bill is fairly broad and there is concern about it impacting dog shows or other positive dog sports, such as flyball or agility events. I will work with my colleagues in the senate to narrow the language in the bill before it moves out of committee to apply only to greyhound racing and gambling.
Thank you again for you concerns and your attention to this issue. I appreciate your insight and comments.
Thank you,
Alan L. Cropsey
Senate Majority Floor Leader
33rd State Senate District

Dear Mrs. Beyer:
Thank you for your e-mail regarding Senate Bill 626 which seeks to prohibit dog racing in Michigan. I appreciate the time you have taken to contact me.
My office has been in contact with the bill sponsor, Senator Alan Cropsey regarding this issue. It is my understanding that they have received numerous e-mails similar to yours and are working on a substitute to the bill which will more narrowly define dog racing for the purposes of this act. I am told that their intent is to address greyhound or similar sorts of racing where wagering takes place. As such, I do not plan to hold a hearing on the bill until these issues are addressed. However, if you would like to track the status of this bill, please visit www.michiganlegislature.org.
Thank you again for writing. Should you have additional questions, please contact Joe Agostinelli in my office at (866) 525-5637. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of assistance regarding state government.
Best Wishes,
Jason Allen
State Senator
37th District
He called me Mrs......!
Anyhow, there is another of the resonses.
