Just wondering what thickness you guys use for your kennels. I know the thicker the better. But what thickness do you think will do the job.

A screw up on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

I would pour 4", but the most important thing with concrete is your base. I reccomend that after you remove the sod that you lay about 2- 3" of #73's then compact them.
You can use fibermesh, fence, or rebar for reinforcement. I love the fibermesh myself.
Also make sure that you saw cut and seal your slab when you are finished. The saw cut needs to be about 3/4" deep. This gives your concrete a place to crack. Trust me it will.
If you want any more info, feel free to ask.
Thanks, Shane Smith
I just built a new kennel. I poured a pad 20 feet long X 13' Wide X 6 inches thick. It looks really nice. I also put up a 20' X 12' Tuff shed built the dog houses inside. Privacy fenced around the kennels so the dogs can't see out and landscaped around the perimeter. I'm almost finished. I'll post some pics. Not sure if it needs to be 6 inches thick or not. I think you could get away with 4 inches.

Man I had better step it up some then. I was going with 3 inches. I have a few old rolls of chain link and was going to use that for reinforcment. I worked on this thing for two days. Then bam a thunder storm hit in the night. Did not do to much damage. Just a little fixing will do.

most folks around here don't put the fencing and rebar in for dog kennels. I have a friend who has a concrete business and he helped me. We just laid down about 2 1/2 inches of pea gravel and then laid the concrete on that. It looks really nice and hasn't cracked or crumbled yet. Good luck. Man concrete is alot of work. Those boy's who work with concrete sure work for every cent they earn.

I used 2"X6" to form it up and add some gravel. Fill rest in with concrete.
