Whats the best way to train a squirrel dog?
I have a Feist and a blutick/kemmer, and there just pups, i've tried everything i know to get them started, but the problem is i dont know much about it.
Training
All a person can really do is take them where they will have the opportunity to see squirrels and if they have the natural instinct to tree they will do it naturally. It takes a lot of time in the woods to develope a squirrel dog and a lot of people aren't going to put in that effort. One thing you should dois take the pups out alone they learn better and faster alone. It is hard to train 2 puppies in the same year it because of the time envolved. Training 2 pups at the same is like getting another full time job.

Well thanks for the info, its hard enough to train one dog but two is out of the question, i might have my dad trun the bluetick/kemmer into a coon dog.
u can also tease the pup with a squirrel hide i skin my and leave the head feet and tail on it i tie the pup out and use a fishing pole tie the hide to a sting and the sting to the pole about4 feet of sting tease the pup for about 10 min. or till it gets tied that will get u started for now u can call if u want to know more 660-269-6977 jason
take a pup to the park
make sure you put a pink collar and leash on him so they dont think you are a hunter and just pretend you droped the leash and could not catch him

exactly
The park is the best place in the world.
Wear out a pair or 2 of boots and that should do it!

Get the book Squirrel Dog Basics by David Osborn (Treetop Publications). It is a great training tool.
The website Squirrel Dog Central (www.sqdog.com) is loaded with folks who can give you some pointers. All you have to do is ask. There is a lot of information on there already for you to browse.
