For Todd Kellam//Crossbred

I just got done reading the post about Quick being single registered, do not know if this is true or not but if it is this should open up UKC,s eyes to a crosbreed registration. There are many hounds just like this out of ukc dogs and other hounds that just don't meet the breed standards somehow but are dang good coondogs.Just think if Quick didn't meet the breed standards and she is as good as she is and was not given the chance to become a nitchamp/grandnight/or even a world champ!!!! Also there is several people I know that have crossbred hounds that are interested in the ukc prformance program because it is very afordable unlike PKC superstakes, it would just be more money for UKC for registries and I would bet more money in the UKC prefomance program and I bet every one on here likes the sound of that.. Thanks for reading, just by reading all the post on that about Quick most people don't care what a dog is out of as long as it has the meat. THANKS for reading Jacob C Eckles

I hear ya. The purebred / crossbred issue is a hotly contested one. I respect all opinions.

How's that for straddling the fence! lol

Don't ...

Crossbred hounds

I once had a good dog that was half B&T, and walker, but I still would not breed it to a pure bred dog or single register it and attempt to enter it into hunts.

Every man has the right to his on opinion, but mine is that no cross bred dog should be allowed to be registered, allowed to enter events, and no way allowed to be entered into a gene pool of pure bred dogs.

One of two things will happen!
(1) You might do great and make the chosen breed stronger in desired traits.
(2)Bad pups getting sold off to people who have no knowledge what breeding for better hounds is about, and screw up centuries of hard work.
Just to many what ifs for me.

English dogs are the most Crossed up dogs out there.

How can they be that crossed up when 3 of the 6 current breeds are derived from that foundation stock.

As long as they don't have any plott, B&T, or Redbone in them they are full English.

I would say Walkers are the most crossed up. Everyone knows Johnson's Banjo was half bird dog. Not to mention Tenn Lead, the foundation of the walker pack, was a B&T.

Coarse then you got the Pitt bull, cur, and god knows what else in the Plotts.

As well as 90% of the B&T's having as much white as some walkers. Wonder how they got them from standing on there nose all night???? THERE HALF WALKER

we are all huntin mutts, just some purer mutts than others. Let em breed the cross breeds, the only thing stopping them now is a little white lie. Some will, some wont.

DNA, DNA, DNA, WHAT A WONDERFULL THING.

If you consider a Walker an English, I guess you are right, but when I was younger any walker that was ticked up went into the English breed, if it was a good one.

IMO There is nothing wrong with crossbreds as long as its done honestly. If someone breeds a female to something outside its breed and puts false papers on the pups that is wrong but I see nothing wrong with looking outside your breed to better your dogs.

Before you all go making Quick your posterchild for crossbred registration, you need to read T Felderman's "Big Thanks " post on this board. Quick is not a crossbred according to her owners. She is a purebred Walker and both her parents are purebred Walkers.

Also said there were "discrepancies" in her DNA. So that pedigree aint worth the paper its writen on.

Forget the papers. The guy said she is pure Walker. Now if you wish to call him a liar....well that's up to you.

Speaking for myself &
several other plott hunters, there is no cur, pitt bull,or any other such thing bred into our hounds.Keep your words nice and sweet
cause you don't know which ones you might have to EAT!!

How many DNA samples have you pulled from cross breeds?????

Define genetic mud.

Plenty of PR dogs could be classified as genetic mud, those born trashy, babbling and slick tree'ers.

If cross breeds are genetic mud what are bench show champions that couldnt tree a coon in a barrel called?

Posted by Tracey Fincher on 09-27-2006 02:18 PM:

That's the problem with some breeds today they need a little out crossing to help the breed. When the so called higher ups realize that this will help better the breed. They might let it go on. All dogs have a little crossbreed in them somewhere down the line of genetics. Times is changing and just step back and look at the world today. They just hand cranked the space shuttle to outer space the other week. I think if a man wants to breed out of his or her breed, they should be allowed to make this cross. Just come with a set rules for doing this and be followed.

Some of the anti crossbred statements I've heard are like thinking kids without condoms won't have sex.

Why not let people have the opportunity to crossbreed hounds/ curs openly? Nothing will be in the "wood pile" and if you don't like it you can stay clear. Did the pioneers of the "established" breeds get this much neg feedback?

I prolly won't raise anything croosbred but I could care less if someone else does.

Steve

Ha Ha Ha, you haven't read much on the Plott dogs origins, If Von Plott thought it would produce the kind of dog he wanted he bred to it or bred it. Curs, Elk hounds, he did what he wanted.
