Purina HI PRO!!!
can anyone give me any info on this dog food? I have been a diehard diamond man but i left my number and no one is yet to call me back. I went to the feed store and they give me another bag I put it in my canister i keep my food in. walked back into the house and it just made me sick at my stomach thinking about what had just happend so i got in my truck went and got me some hi pro, got back home and poured the bag of diamond out on the ground. I may change my mind, but right now the way I see it is, I have given them money over the years and now I have a dead dog in return for it. Gary Woods

I feed Hi-Pro and have no complaints. The dogs eat it well, I give them about a quart a day when I'm not hunting hard, and about a quart and a half when i am hunting hard. They have plenty of energy and stamina. I buy it from Sam's Club and after the rebate check discount I pay $7.27 per 50# before tax. I like it.

That's all I feed too is Purina Hi-Pro. Even to pups as soon as thier weaned. All my dogs and pups seem to do very well on it. Plenty of energy and solid stools. Adam Frary.

HI-Pro and Dog Chow are garbage ... ProPlan or maybe Purina One are much better choices .... just read the labels and see what looks better for hunting dogs.
ProPlan may cost more per pound up front but you'll feed less , the dogs will digest more of it , hunt harder and be healthier ..... in the end the more expensive feeds are just as cheap if you look at how far each dollar of feed goes.
Justin, whats cheap to you? 19.95 for purina HI PRO was not to cheap for me. To me real garbage was loosing my dog.

Gary,
I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I know just how you feel.
I feed Diamond for years. About a year ago I switched to Hi-Pro. I feed about 1 1/2 coffee cans (that's my measure cup LOL) per normal size (60 lb.) dog. smaller dogs less, larger dogs may get 2 cans in the winter. My dogs do as well as they were on Diamond. Yes. get in the Pro Plan Club quick as you can. The rebate will save you pleanty of money.

ProPlan Beef formula-
Calorie Content:
Metabolizable Energy (ME): 451 Kcal/cup; 1,834 Kcal/lb.; 4,040 Kcal/kg
Ingredients:
Beef, brewers rice, corn gluten meal, whole grain wheat, beef tallow preserved with mixed-tocopherols (source of Vitamin E), chicken meal, dried beet pulp***, fish meal, egg product, natural flavors, dicalcium phosphate, whole grain corn, calcium carbonate, potassium chloride, salt, L-Lysine monohydrochloride, vitamin supplements (E, A, B-12, D-3), choline chloride, ascorbic acid (source of Vitamin C), riboflavin supplement, niacin, calcium pantothenate, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, biotin, thiamine mononitrate, folic acid, pyridoxine hydrochloride, manganese sulfate, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), copper sulfate, calcium iodate, sodium selenite.
E-4469
The tricky part is whether meat meal or meat is used .... meals hold their volume better after cooking as opposed to cooking down and then being less in a mix than the grains even though the bag still lists it first.
Then there is the corns ....corn gluten meal is supposed to be the best corn product for digestability and energy .
Like I said, My dogs seem to do well on Hi-Pro and I'll continue to feed it. However if I could bring myself to pay $30 for 35lbs of food or whatever it is, then I would feed Pro-Plan Proformance. It had better be better than Hi-pro for the price. Adam.

Justin, I feed one quart a day, how much of the pro plan does it take to feed a hound a day? I know pro plan is a good food but its for sure lots higher. and looking at the labels purina hi pro has alot of the stuff pro plan has. Corn gluten meals and stuff.

our dogs have done great on the hi-pro 'garbage'. The proof is in the pudding -- in four years:
18 champions
9 grand champions
1 water champion
1 field trial champion
6 world show qualifiers
13 purina event category wins
#6 redbone in the nation 2003
#2 redbone in the nation 2005
ask anyone who's seen our 'pretty show dogs' blow away the competition in field trials and water races -- they don't just look good, they perform good.
our oldest dog Code Red became a water champion at age 9, winning three straight races, heat and final, against at least 8 dogs each race.
We pay 16.92 for #50 bag at Tractor Supply - with $4.00 of that coming back in rebate.

Processing also has alot to do with dog food ..kinda like the difference in boiled okra and fried okra .
Yall feed the cheapest if ya' got to ... but I've never heard of anyone that fed ProPlan and HiPro that said Hi-Pro was even in the same ball park .... but hey , what do facts go to do with anything ?
Justin please if you would tell me how much do you feed each grown dog a day? here is my point I feed one quart a day you said it takes only half as much pro plan so with that said . can i feed my dog a half a quart of pro plan a day and they stay healthy and look great, like they do now? you have almost got me sold on it, please let me know? Gary Woods

You'll just have to try it .. it don't take much . How much you hunt , parasites , climate ,etc ... will determine how much you feed. ProPlan and Bil-Jac are the two most digestible feeds I've seen ... dogs just pass little , dark , hard coyote turds on those two feeds.
justin are you sure it only takes half as much. on ole roy my dogs turds looks like rabbitt pelets, there so tight and right. i can buy 4 bags of roy for one price of your rich man food.
