Show me the grit!!! (Blueticks)

Hey guys just wondering what line of blueticks you have seen that you think have the most grit and speed. Thanks for your responses Mike

Mine (seriously). Which come off the Ormiston line by way of Gaither, Anderson, and Vaughn; with some of Harry Darby's hounds and some young hounds going back to Dennis Upson's hounds, which are breed back to ol' SR Diamond Jim and Vaughn hounds. Matt Turner's hounds also, and they come through Anderson and Vaughn per SR Diamond Jim (No, Warren Haslouer had nothing to do with breeding Jim, but THANK GOD he promoted him so well!) and this is seen in the hounds of Mike Fairchild and Ken Hitchcock. Les Mitchell bred his hounds with a lot of old Vaughn and SR Diamond Jim and they served him well for years in Idaho on bear and cougars. Their are others her in Michigan who have bred hounds back to Cheif, SR Diamond Jim and old Vaughn hounds successfully like Ellison, Cripen, Hale, Massey, et al, that are great bear and cat hounds. All come off that same back mass to Elbert Vaugh's hounds through the Warrior X Fly cross Ed Meeks made nearly 60 years ago.

The dogs I have and have been producing have lots of grit, sometimes to much, I use them on bear, they are of average speed all and all if you rounded it out, the bigger dogs are a bit slower, the smaller ones well they are a bit faster but all have grit, heart, nose and brains.

I am a stretch south from you thou.

You want grit, you want Rays Blueticks.I had plotts for 15 years, weems and shamrock.First thing I noticed in Rays were the nose and I thought maybe I would give up grit.My vet bills have gone through the roof.There probally others out there but I havent seen a more balanced package.Sorry we dont have any for sale at this time.

Joe Galvas's line of blueticks are the fastest most gritty pure bred bluetick hounds i have ever seen. They have the heart to drive a track with everything they got and when they catch it it dont take them long to make him tree. I have had great success with this line of dogs and know alot of others that have too!

Mike - Joe Galvas has good hounds and they are bred a lot like the ones I listed, or they were 10 years ago.

I can testify for the ray bred blues!!! I've had a few blue dogs out of different lines and by far these have appealed to me the most. Can't wait to get some pups now

Contact Bo Wood, he is expecting a litter of pups out of one of the females out of my breeding that he got from me. She has been ate up a few times by bear, says she is one of the best trail dogs he has seen, she is under just over 2 yrs old, and he bred it to a Ray Breed dog out of TBLUES male. They should fit the bill.

If you are looking for a older started dog, he has 2 pups out of the same female that just got bred and a male that he got from me that was killed by a bear, he may come off one of them, they are probably around 6 months old or better, or wait for the pups that he is going to have.

TBLUE may have some Ray bred pups on the ground now or started pups as well, have heard nothing but good things about his hounds as well.

I have up coming crosses planned but no pups currently or started dogs currently either. One thing for sure if you are looking for that kind of grit save your change you will have vet bill. I lost count on how many have been lost over the yrs due to non climbers.

most all of the older stock blues have all the grit you want, a lot lack in speed thou, but that is coming about as well.

I don't have anything for sale and Doubt that I will have any pups available unless she has a pile but as far a grit I would say that the ray dog have the most I have hunted and speed would be utchman/ Cameron cross and they will stay with one the just don't pull hair

I've had the best luck with the old Morris river blue Boomer line of dogs.....nose/foot combination seems to carry them well and if one wants to stay on the ground he wont like it....bay tight and grab when they have any chance at all...I've had several out of McKinney's stock and they also have all the tools to impress....

One of the impressive part of the Ray dogs I didnt mention earlier is the litter success percentage.Ive tried hounds of every breed and color, but have not had any success getting the quantity per litter that make the grade like Rays strain does.Another note worthy quality is the durability of these dogs.My Stormy was hunted 40 days out of our 46 day kill season a numder of years ago, he was out of Rays Jag.

U hit it on the head there Dan . Ole Ray has really put somethin together over the years n I'm glad I found em . We have a pretty high success rate with them.I like my chances when I make a cross or get 1 outa another ray cross that i got a good chance of gettin another great hound. Cold nosed,fast,gritty, athletic, tough hounds that u can rely on everyday n pound the guts out them and they flat catch game. Now some accel in some areas better than others but there's a lot of them that have it all. There's no breed perfect but if u find 1 let me know , I want some.

At this time I don't have any pups or young dogs available. Plan on breeding this fall but mite have somethin available sooner.

Buzz Anderson has very good stock of dogs.

I wouldn't over look the Ellwanger bred dogs from WI either Jerry and Chris have had great success along with a handful of us here in MI with the Ellwanger bred dogs.

Hypothetically say some one wanted to talk to Mr John Ray how would you get ahold of him?

Ormiston and Anderson hounds evolved on separate up parallel path. Ormiston hounds were heavy influenced by Bob Gaither, who had gotten a lot of his early hounds from Buzz Anderson. Buzz' breeding resulted in SR Diamond Jim. Most all of Ormiston's hounds back mass to SR Diamond Jim, and both lines go back heavy to Mountain Music Blue (who was off Meek's Warrior X Redden's Fly - both from Elbert Vaughn). Not sure I'd go for any of Buzz' hounds at this time, but Travis Black has a litter of pups off a female that is out of my Trip X Gertie cross (double Poorboy) and a male heavy in old Ormiston hounds going back to Buck Timon's Timber Wolf dog and ol' Donna. The male is a good lion hound and is also used on coon. The gyp is a flat out strong dry ground bobcat hound. I'm getting a male from Travis. He only has male to sell.

The Smokey River stuff Mr.Glynn from Georgia has is pretty dang gone gritty.He's got dogs working great on bear and mountain lion.His Geronimo dog is siring some super gritty big game dogs.
