Lone Star Tick and Lyme disease, What to expect after the antibiotics?

My 2 year old wasn't him self the last couple hunts, so we went to the vet. He has tested positive for both Lyme and Lone Star Tick disease. Now I wait to see if he will ever be the same dog after weeks medication.

How did your dog turn out after getting over this disease?

can't speak for Lone Star disease, but most recover just fine after Lyme, especially if you get it early.

make sure you give antibiotics with food. if you've ever had to doxycycline you'd understand. will make you nauseous bad on empty stomach.

side note, I think that much of the thyroid/reproductive issues are a result of tick diseases. Try not to even think about it for awhile, if you were to test now while 'sick' you'd most surely get a low reading. Let the dog recover awhile. Like I said, many are just fine. But if in 6 months or so you notice a significant difference, then get Thyroid checked.

Hopefully you caught it early and dog will be just fine.

And find a good tick prevention program. Simparica Trio is expensive, but so is treating for tick disease. I'm actually using Simparica Trio along with Seresto Collar.

X2 and vaccinate for Lyme! Everything around me that is vaccinated and boosted yearly along with a preventative program seems to be beating the odds. If not vaccinated, most all of them test positive. Lyme is very strong in my immediate area. My horse even had it! I had it last year and the guy that hunts with me a good bit had it twice! With all that said most everything found early has recovered well.

Got the Lyme vaccine on my Pride pup, 1st one I ever had done. Hope it helps. Last summer I had Lyme, Erlichia and Anaplasmosis and barely left my yard to get them. I hate ticks

She put him a once a month preventer and antibiotics. I wonder if a dog can get alpha-gail were they cant eat meat? Should of ask her while i was there they still wont let you in right now with covid stuff.

We gonna stay on the once a month pill seems to be a good thing.

Thanks for the feed back.

Erlichia

I have a cur female squirrel dog that got Erlichia about 3 yr ago. I treated her and she recovered ok, but ever since then she will not eat any dog feed that is beef based. I don't know if that was caused from the Erlichia or not.

I don't know if dogs can get an alpha-gal allergy but with it's prevalence in humans I have suggested to some whose dogs have continued to have issues to switch their diets to chicken or fish based feed and it has worked.
It is also good to remember that dogs taking doxy will be sensitive to the sun and heat along with possible digestive issues.
