dog quit treeing

Got a 1yr old dog that was turning the crank but when the weather warmed up he quit treeing. He just runs a track locates like crazy and moves on over and over again. Anybody else seen this.

Quit treeing

Treeing is really hard on a hound, constant barking, tire out quickly. Plus its warmer out. So he's hot when he gets to a tree and starts treeing and gets hotter. Could be the food your feeding making him hot. Now last year I was using Soresto flea and tick collars and the medicine in them messed with my hounds and they did what your talking about, only 2 of them and the other was fine. So I went to using bravecto tablets and they were fine. Thyroid could be another reason, tick disease, there are a number of reasons. Could be just leaving. I dont think a hounds true colors dont come out until about 2 years old. But I wouldn't change everything at once, just get him back on the tree and praise, you can evaluate what's going on by watching him instead of guessing at it.

Thanks for the input. The dog is going to be 2 the end of july but i think you might be on to something with the soresto collar. We do use a soresto collar on him and did all last summer too and he did the same thing last summer locate and leave over and over again.

Hopefully

Thats all it is. I reccomend swapping to Simparica, its a monthly tablet but Bravecto will not kill off the lone star tick after 30days so you need to back it up with something else. Good luck hopefully thats all it is.

could also be the vegetation.

Had one do that after I put a insecticide cattle tag zip tied to his collar and washed his coat with "Bayer" brand tree and shrub insecticide. I know to some it sounds crazy to try in the first place but some fellow coonhunters are who turned me on to it. Finally after about a month and a half of not treeing I took him to my long time coon hound mentor and the first thing he did was cut that tag off! Next he gave me a pretty good chewing on about how I knew better and told me it'd be at least a month before he came out of it. it was dang near exactly a month when the dog treed again and has been fine since. Although he's never been the same dog hunting wise. I believe it really screwed him up. Like his accuracy and go power. I have only used topicals since like generic front line or advantix.

Sounds like possibly similar to the soresto collar

check his ears too if there is a bunch of black gunk the dog may have a yeast infection.I learned from experience once his ears cleaned up he was back to treeing fine again.
