Allergies

What to give a dog for allergies. My female is sneezing a lot and every day when i feed she has puz in her eyes. Dont know if I spelled that right but yall know what i mean

I give mine Alaway eye drops. Once a day for gooey eyes. It is over the counter. Benedryll works too for the sneezing.

If you go to the vet ask for a shot of depo-medrol it last about 21 days . Only use in healthy dogs as with any steriod including predisone it is an immune system response suppressant It does work great for allergies and unlike benadryl works for more than a few hours and you don't have to worry about drowsiness . I use benadryl for mild cases and the shot for more extreme .
Use a warm wet cloth to wipe off goop then flush her eyes out good with saline or water (I have even used a water hose just holding near the eye and letting it run into it , not on high pressure) it sounds like she could have something stuck in them . Fescue seeds are common in dogs eyes this time of year . The squirt bottle on contact solution works great . Pull up on down on eye lid when doing this to check for seeds ect they can get way down in lids . If you see something that won't wash out or think there could be you can also dip a q-tip in vasaline and clean out area between eye and lid both top and bottom debris can get in the pocket there . I also use allergy relief eye drops .

When getting the shot have you noticed any side effets with the depo-medrol ??

I know prednisone makes alot of humans loopy.... just curious how it effects a dog

I have used it on Maf a couple of times and haven't noticed any weird side effects I know I have also got the shot for another male and female we once owned . It can increase their appetite . I am sure like any drug there is a list of side effects online and you could talk with your vet about them .
It does help considerably for dogs who have allergies which is what we have used it for short term usually in the spring . It is better than having a tired dog on benadryl , if you give it to them in morning it's effects are worn off by the time you take them hunting at night . Supposed to help on older dogs who have arthitis as an anti-inflamatory and also for dogs with skin conditions caused by allergies .
