Routine Meds
I know this May have been discussed a thousands times on here before but I want to know what you all would suggest starting a dog on as far as preventative meds. The hound I have is a 5 month old redbone/ English cross and is going to be a big dog. She is prolly 35lbs or so now. I know living in the south I will definatly need a heartworm preventive and I have used various types with my beagles in the past but what I am wanting to know is if this was your dog what all would you be giving? Thanks
if I just had one or two hounds I would go with the vet subscribed or over the counter products for heart worms and intestinal parasites . when you get to owning a yard full of dogs you can start going the alternative route .

In GA, rabies is required by law at 3 months. Distemper, parvo, etc. per your vet's protocol. Lepto if needed, but be aware can cause reaction in some dogs. Year round heartworm preventative in the southeast. Flea/tick control as needed.

Home to a bunch of short dogs who occasionally allow me the honor of holding the other end of their leads!
You can buy heart worm preventives with out a script at petbucket.com, I have used them several times now.

Fisher...thanks 4 that info. Ever use the Interceptor? I like that it works on all types of worms, but never heard of it.
