DNA - NITE CH (UKC) Suggested rule change

DNA - NITE CH (UKC) Suggested rule change

A suggestion to UKC. (Performance)

"All dogs that earn a NITECH degree" to be DNA ed following receipt of their degree" (Dogs that are already NITECH & GRNITE also to be DNA ed)

Once a hound becomes a NITECH, UKC should make it mandatory that those hounds are DNA ed; especially if they are in the performance program!

The DNA Test should also be taken by some sort of UKC representative, possibly with a photo giving his/her verification.

This would help with honesty in the sport and stop people from falsifying dogs. I.e. hunting a dog that is not the right dog to the papers and stud in the performance program. And this would also give ukc opportunity to discipline those that are willfully falsifying dogs presently.

Thanks for reading John

Please feel free to comment!

Intentions are right

I see where you are coming from.
Its a shame we have to go to great
lengths to make the owners honest.
But remember, the papers dont make
the dog, its the dog that makes the papers.

Just getting back into coon hunting and
DNA is something new to me. Maybe I am
looking at it wrong. But if I send my female
off to get bred I am putting my trust in
the owner of stud already, otherwise I
shouldnt be doing business with them.

Legislating honesty will not improve honesty.

Making this kind of thing mandatory will only push more people away from this sport. We simply can't afford that.

If you want to make the sport more honest, don't breed to or do business with people that do this kind of thing. Report them when you hear of it. Make it so that they have such a bad rep that they can't make their way through this world.

Don't stand for guys cheating on a cast. Bring up the younger generations to be honest, not only to themselves but to others.

If the dog won't do it right.....there really isn't any shame. They all don't make it. All you can do is start over, and remove the problem dog from the breeding stock.

Personal change and the lack of apathy for dishonesty is how we can change it, not by making rules that cost people more money. This sport is highly expensive as it is.

Great thought to a great thought Redboneman.
Honesty is built into a man. A dishonest one will
only find a way to beat the system. Was a time
when competition hunting was friends having fun.
I believe making new rules because of a few had
some to do with the decline in our sport but again
I am just getting back into it.

We CAN police our sport together as Redboneman
pointed to. Those at UKC doesnt know what goes
on at the local level. But they do have MOH and HD
that we can turn to. Rules are already in place to
deal with them and until someone gets barred at the
local level it isnt going to change.

Also something else to think about, why single
out the Nt Ch and Gr Nt Ch? The cheaters arent
just at the top in the hunts.

My thoughts on this subject are simple. Just take it upon yourself to DNA-P all your own dogs ecspecially before breeding them. All my dogs have been DNA'ed. With the Preformance program UKC already requires Preformance studs to be profiled and that other kc requires both stud and dam to be DNA'ed to super stake a litter Also that each one of the pups be DNA'ed. Just with what profiling that is required proof of parentage can be found. Yes cheaters will allways find a way to cheat, but if those of us that are concerned DNA our own dogs we can still prove whether everything is on the up and up with what we own.
