The way it was.

Last night I sat and watched "Where the red fern grows" with my son, it was his first time watching it since he really started understanding hounds.
Man what I would have give to have lived then. Things are so much different then. More wide open country and folks were so much nicer. I know most didn't have much as far as money but a mans word was good and he earned everything he had.

It would have been a hell of a place/time to raise a family

I agree with you Billy--

I've always told myself that I was born a century too late.Sure,times were tougher back then,but in those days men were men who worked HARD just to survive.Therefore,they had a stronger appreciation for the simpler things in life.Guess them days are long gone.

No running water. No electricity. No vehicles. I grew up amish. It isnt what its cracked up to be. Ill take my chances in this century.

Ps people are people. Just as many crooks back then as there are today.

More open country would be nice tho. Thats the only reason I'd want to go back.

It sure looks nice but when you think about all of the hardship, disease, life dependent on crop success, busting your butt sun up to sun down just to eat...long hard winters, hot summers, dying young...getting a bath once a week, going outside to go to the bathroom..LOL........all for what, so you more land to run a coondog?? You can keep it!!

Billy I think it wood have been nice to live back then! Yea ppl did work hard an still didn't have much money but I work hard now an still ain't got much money! Lol money wasn't a issue back then like it is now my grandaddy lived like that an.love to sit around an listen to him tell story's! I always laugh at him we always complain bout our water having so much chlorine in it an he says well at least u got running water now!

Billy, I own a place in the same area, and I am considering opening a B&B for all of you that want that "ole time experience". Talk about fun, you'll love it; times were much "simpler" then. Your first morning up at 4:00 am for that short walk to the out house. Then get dressed, milk five cows before breakfast, carry the milk to the milk house, separate the milk, feed the calves, hogs and chickens. Then inside for a power house breakfast of eggs, ham and home made biscuits cooked on a wood stove. After that great breakfast, down to the wood lot, fell a couple of trees with an ax then chop and split two cords of wood with the ax. Down to the barn and harness two teams, one for you and one for the boy, six is plenty old enough to drive a team, one to a lister and the other to the mold board. Work in the field 'til near dark and unharness the teams and feed the stock. Then another of those great meals, before bed time. Work all week and on Saturday night get down the carbide light and call 'ol Drum and go 'possum huntin'. Weren't many coons in the country in those times, but you get the idea. I'll have both the week and the two week experience ; you can check our website, brokeback. com.

I agree

You know you hear old timers they will always say" yea tthat wa the good ole days" you never hear anybody say that about this century. Maybe if we had a different president and more people working we could say that. No welfare for people that dont need it.
