a nite hunt ruling question
i was asked to judge a cast this weekend, i had never done it so iasked the other hunters if they cared to and they declined. it was a three dog cast and one of the hunters is a good friend of mine. he trees his dog in first. the other hunter said the dog moved. i didnt believe he moved so i didnt minus him. we tree the other 2 dogs in and go to the tree. this is where the problem arises. the three dogs were treed on one tree, but we saw three coons in another tree atleast 20-25 yards away. there was also a nice sized gap in between and it wasnt under the same canopy of trees. there were other trees around the tree the dogs were on and i would have plused those trees if they were in one of those. the tree the coons were in, i would not hvae minused if it was a possum thats how far away it was. did i do right? ive been in very few hunts and wasnt sure about this, i did what i felt was right and offered to put a question mark and have the moh rule on it becuase of my lack of experience

if ya circled the points,
ya did the right thing, Rance.
coon dawg
thats exactly what i did was circle the points. the tree they were treed on was real bushy, so i felt justified in circling it. my buddy didnt give me a real hard time but he never did agree i did the right thing

tell your buddy-
to take friendly flying leap. You gave him the oppurtunity to hold the card.
Only problem with the situation is if the other two guys voted the coon was there, you had a majority. I'm not sure you would have won that question back at the MOH, even if you were the judge.
You made the right call. If I were you in that situation and was very confident there was no cross-over, I would not have offered to question the call. Make them do it and stick to your judge's decision unless they formally called for a vote at the tree. As soon as the next drop was made without a question mark, the situation should have been dead in the water.
I take that back-
about the majority vote over-ruling you. Judge must see the coon, I believe.
I don't believe that is correct. The majority rules on a tree scoring vote. Judge does NOT have to see coon to be plussed if majority of cast agrees.
the third hunter was adamant not
to plus the tree, but then again he had third tree. i saw the coons, but they were in the other tree a good distance from where the dogs were treeing
