kennel cough
dang, i hate to tell you this i would almost promise its kennel cough! and it is awful!!! there are shots you can give for it but its more or less like a preventative i say it wouldnt do any good now... im no vet but i just went through this. it spreds like parvo. the vet can get them over it in about 3 day they give an antibiotic from the drug store and a cough supresent. thats the only thing i know that works. i hope that helps. good luck!

Had a resue come from shelter w it and vet gave intertrecheal shot. Was over in less than a week
Had a field trial at my house about 11 years ago and a guy brought his walker with it (just got it back from training via redwing dog hauler). Was living in a different state and all vets said do NOTHING and let it run it's course. BAD mistake I will NEVER do again!
About a month later, a yearling that got it first, wasn't acting right. Took him in and vet gave him IV antibiotics and sent us home with pills. Next day he was hopping around like nothing was wrong. Left to the store and 3 hrs later when I got home he was laying flat out dead. Vet said it was pnuemonia brought on as a secondary infection from kennel caugh. I was so ticked!
Nowadays when I say jump a vet BETTER jump. I don't mess around with them. In 30 yrs I have ran into more that didn't know their asz from a hole in the ground than should be allowed. I've had to really hunt for decent vets. It is not often I have been stumped with what is going on with my own dogs. Maybe 5 times in 30 years. 4 of those the vets were too until I asked for tests. (been way more than that that I knew what the dog needed treatment for and vet disagreed, ran tests vet was wrong-I was right, and walked out NOT paying for tests dog didn't need)
Granted, I have seen vets do AMAZING things! I have learned for me, that if a vet tells me it is not that big of a deal or doubt what I know to be true...they are worthless.
Had every vet tell me my dog didn't have a broken foot for 20+ mile radius. Nobody had time to see the dog, told me it was probably just a sprain. 3 days later I got in 50 miles away. Had to lie about dog getting ran over to get in that day. Vet was awesome, no sedation (on a trained k9). She confirmed it was broke and said I did a nice job setting it as she splinted it. (No chit, kept telling everybody I heard the bone snap and the malinois, HIGH pain tolerance, was non weight bearing)
I would have the dog looked at if you can find a decent vet. You CAN treat kennel cough, seen it done. Depending on how bad he has it before you start treatmentdepends on how long treatment is and what. Even with the one that got the shot, though most the coughing was done in a week...it still took a while to fully recover to where he could start working.
KC is nothing to fool with. Secondary infections complicating KC being untreated can kill. Experienced that first hand as well.
Good luck with getting over this hump w your dog. Keep it quarantined and change/wash clothes before going into house as it is airborne virus that is hard not to pass around.
