Rule question

4 dog cast. A and b tree together and c is split. D is still on trail. Once you score a and b, do you recast them to d or score c's tree first. I looked through the ukc rule book and can't find anything relating to this.

RULE 11

You have the option to re-cast with one dog treed and one still out on trail. You can find it under rule 11, Handlers and Judges section. What you described, youcould have one dog elect to cut, and the other stay leashed, both of which are well with in the rules.

option

You would have the option to recast a & B because D is still out on trail.

Now, if you take the option to recast when does that occur?

I know I've been on a few casts where I would have preferred to cut my dog directly from the tree and the judge ordered me to walk before turning??? The cast could hear the dog trailing, so that wasn't the issue...

What if 2 dogs are taken from a scored tree and a dog is still trailing, handler A requests to recast IMMEDIATELY, while handler B requests to walk a minute???

My interpretation is that if you take the option to recast, you may recast as soon as a dog on trail opens. Is this correct?

That is how I judge it. Recast when the 8 is broke.

Same here when I'm judging, but OPTION creates some problems with fellas who have dogs that want to go back a lot.

I know it was spoken before on here, if I'm not mistaken, that when the OPTION is taken by 1 member, all that plan on recasting must recast then, or remain leash locked until the tree is scored...

Even judges who have that dog out trailing and are waiting to tree tend to want to wait a little longer before announcing that dogs can be recast.

JiM,
Unless I'm missing something... You don't need to wait for the 8 to be broke. If one dog is treed and another is at large, you've met the criteria to have the option to recast.

I can see why you're doing it (basically the same as AKC, start the time on dogs trailing before recasting) but I don't think UKC rules require it unless something has come out in the last year advising otherwise.
