Artificial Insemination?
I plan on breeding a few bitches with chilled semen in the near future and the vets are getting out of control. The last time I had it done it cost me $289 plus alot of gas and lost time and got only two pups. I know I can do at least that good. Wondering where to get the testing and breeding supplies? I know it has been on here a couple of times, but can't seem to remember the threads. Also, who was making a DVD on this? I could have used this info last week, but there is no better time than now.

I believe it was Oak Ridge (Joe Newlin) who was talking of making a DVD of how to do AI.
Joe Newlin's website has a lot of useful information on AI. His site is thecoonden.com and the information is in his articles. We have used a vet to AI a female before but never tried anything "in home". After reading the information in his articles, we now have our first litter of "in home" AI puppies due next weekend. Danny Glista also has a lot of helpful information on here. Between those two, you should have everything covered. Good luck!
DID YOU GET YOUR FEMALE PROGESTERONE TESTED AND EVERYTHING FOR THAT $289? IF SO, YOU DID WONDERFUL. AROUND HERE THE TESTS COST ABOUT $40-$60 A SHOT, THE INSEMINATION COSTS AROUND $75-$100, PLUS REGULAR OFFICE FEES AND STUFF.
THE FEMALE DETERMINES THE LITTERSIZE, NOT THE MALE. IF ALL SHE DROPS IS TWO EGGS, THAT WILL BE ALL YOU GET. IF THE MALE DETERMINED LITTERSIZE, FEMALES WOULD HAVE MILLIONS OF PUPS.
IF YOU DONT GET HER PROGESTERONE TESTED TO DETERMINE WHEN HER PEAK OVULATION IS TO SHIP SEMEN ACCORDINGLY, THEN IT WILL BE JUST LIKE BREEDING NATURALLY, EXCEPT LITTERALLY A ONE TIME SHOT.

Thanks for the help!
That web site is the most imformative i have read. It should really help out my breeding efforts.
Christy- that did not include progesterone tests, and the female was live bred a different time and had 10. So I kind of blame the vet for the small litter, that is why I figured I could do at least that good on my own.
DCT-good luck on your pups, it always is feels good when hard work pays off.
Oak Ridge-Get to work on that DVD!
THE WEIRD THING ABOUT FEMALES, IS THEY NEVER OVULATE AT THE SAME TIME IN THEIR CYCLE.
THEY COULD TAKE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CYCLE ON ONE HEAT, AND THEN NOT TAKE UNTIL THE END ON HER NEXT.
THEY ARE EXTREMELY HARD TO GUESS BECAUSE U REALLY NEVER KNOW WHEN THE EGGS WILL BE RIGHT FOR FERTILIZATION WITHOUT THE TESTS.
