Tried something new.
Went hunting last night as soon as it got dark. Turned loose at 5:45 p.m. and had a coon treed in just a few minutes. Had another one treed at 6 : 15 p.m. Does anybody else hunt this early ?? Would like to know what time everybody goes hunting .

Joey,
Before our weather took a turn, the coon were moving well before it got dark. We could have been treeing coon at 4:00 PM....
Of course, our deer season was in full swing, so we had to wait until the deer hunters made it out of the woods. They were telling me that they were seeing coon all afternoon.
When we would wait until 7:00 PM....we were getting old tracks, but still treeing coon. By 11:00 PM...it was like the coon all evaporated...

good right after sunset and right before sunrize
i always go out about 1 hour after sunset and usally tree one or two then theres always that slow spot sometime in the night for about 2 hours then it kicks back off good. if i hunt with my dog starting at an hour after dark and hunt untill sunup i can usally tree 3 or 4 before 12am and tree another 4 or 5 before the sun comes up. but seems like most the times i tree em faster and easier right after sunset and about 2 hours before daylight. now where i hunt is all public land woods so all natrual food sources and no deer feeders or nothin. if you hunt around an area that might have crops or deer feeders you can realy pinpoint what time of the night the coons are moving and where there going and coming from.

I like to get out early like that, especially on light nights. Had a few nights last summer where we treed some coon before dark on full moon nights. Seems like on light nights they start denning back up an hour or so after dark and dont come back out until well after midnight. I keep some trail cameras out on some feeders and that is the usual pattern for light nights.

Last month or so... best tracks seem to come within the first hour of darkness... after 8pm everything seems to really slow down until after midnight...

Joey I usually hunt like this all winter. I've usually trred a couple and headed back to the truck before most of the guys around here even load the dogs to go.
