Thank You America....

I'm gonna catch heck for this one, but had to pass it on...

A Somalian arrives in Minneapolis as a new immigrant to the United
States . He stops the first person he sees walking down the street and
says, "Thank you Mr. American for letting me in this country , giving me housing,
food stamps, free medical care, and free education!"

The passerby says, "You are mistaken, I am Mexican."

The man goes on and encounters another passerby. "Thank you for having
such a beautiful country here in America !"

The person says, "I not American, I Vietnamese."

The new arrival walks further, and the next person he sees he stops,
shakes his hand and says, "Thank you for the wonderful America!" That
person puts up his
hand and says, "I am from Middle East , I am not American!"

He finally sees a nice lady and a sks, "Are you an American?"

She says, "No, I am from Africa !"

Puzzled, he asks her, "Where are all the Americans?"

The African lady checks her watch and says..."Probably at work!!!!!!!

I agree with what he said. Ringer3, your point comes across but lots of folks who come here have plugged in and gotten to work. If your point is only about immigrants you are just taking pot shots. The bigger point is how many Americans, old or new, think that the gov't needs to hold their hand all the time. From natives on the reservations, euro/anglo's to the newest immigrant from whatever place folks shouldn't come here and expect cradle to grave socialism. I do see that it is in our best interest as a nation to offer help at times to get families through tough spots but not to lead them to become dependent. Another Roosevelt perfected the art of buying the vote by putting in place the social support system of welfare. The only thing is that in his day it was at a time of national crisis and WWII came along and either employed or killed off a large share of folks who were needing jobs. And it did that around the world so that there became room in the economies of the world to grow, especially in the wealthier nations. Democracks who followed in his pattern saw the power of keeping their "constituency" on the gov't dole. A large number of folks in this country are multi-generation welfare families. Many of our newer immigrants are honestly looking for real jobs and a chance to succeed. Maybe there are some who want to be spoon fed but I see lots of these folks just want to work and own a home. And lots of their kids speak english just fine. My wife's german grandparents and great grandparents didn't speak much english, especially in their little town and at the farm but they worked and took care of their obligations and sent sons to war against the Kaiser and the Fuhrer. Don't count those immigrants out as taking up space.
