Alot of the guys i hunt with use Marlin 30-30's, 35's an Remington 7600 pump guns in 30-06 all seem to do the job.
The best caliber for bear, bar none,is a 45-70.Unless you are wanting to shoot long range.

hey red bone proud how many cases of bullits do you carry
A 44 mag can for sure get the job done.I have shot big bear with a 44 but a 45-70 is absolutely devastating. No comparison between the two.
any one use a 410 slug or any other shot guns
I have a 450 marlin that does a great job.
.35 Rem. or a .450 Marlin -- Seen alot killed with different guns and those are about the best plain out stoppers ive seen. Never saw any shot with a .45-70 but ive heard nothing but good from them as well. Handgun wise a .44 is nice but i think people use the wrong bullets/loads for the situation. Im in the process of Purchasing a .460 XVR handgun. Adam

Depends....
As someone that gets the privilege of seeing alot of game taken. Everything depends on your skill level. And realistically what is most important is ensuring A clean kill, By showing some respect for the animal you are attempting to harvest. Could kill about anything out there with A .22 if the situation and opportunity is right. But I prefer to show some respect for the animal I am about to harvest and want to minimize the chances of something going awry. Any of the calibers listed above are appropriate. The hand gun rounds, Treed bears ok, spot and stalk? Maybe not. Depends on the situation you expect to be in. My personal rule, for any of the large predators, Cougar on up. Is nothing less then A .270 Personally have killed just about all of the North American game with A .243 But I would not recommend it for the majority of guys out there. Nothing against anyone in particular, But have had to do alot of leg work and got my dogs into more then enough jackpots due to not enough fire power to compensate for A slightly less then ideal shot. And some of those shots are from guys that I know can shoot but got A hit of the big Cat fever. So as above. Would take anything that suits you and the situation that is in the .270 class on up. Good luck and good hunting.
Rhino.

I shot a 400Lbs black in New Brunswick last year with a 25 06 its all about shot placement and a good bullet. You don't buy the value brand for a big game hunt.

a bow
Ive never seen a bear die as fast as I did when shot mine with a bow. A 12 or 20 ga. slug is good also
I have seen a 444 used and it was good for sure ..
Most hunters around here use a rifled 12 gauge barrel .
Works good on bear ,, And alot of places have shot gun only for deer too ..

22 mag in the ear........never shot a bear with buck shot unless you are point blank range, other wise you are gona have 1 mean critter on your hands.
rifled barrel .. Slug barrel .. Shoots only slugs .
Usually close range shooting over bait ; or up in a tree .
I do not know how big the bear is where you are ..
BUT I will not try a biggun with a 22 mag . for sure .
The biggest I have took is 652 pounds ..
Lots of people use a 44 mag .. I do not think they are enough gun for BIG bears .. Let alone a 22 mag .
But I think you are just funning with a statement like that anyway .
